EVERYTHING?

..I'm gifted  :sneaky:
Well minili, minty's well looked after so I should think the MOT would go well. My new mini will be put through the ordeal soon enough too once I've got him running.

With a Dangerous :withstupid: !

Drivers side lower ball joint excessive play (something like that, I've just been told over the phone)
Passenger side outer sill unsatisfactory modification within 30cm structural.... something

:dontgetit:

I can't have my mini back

Aaaah man!

Has the sill been drilled for a roll cage at some point?

Sounds like you went to the wrong testing station. A ball joint is nothing I'd consider that as good as a pass for a mini >_<

The sill's an odd one, what modification does anyone do to an outer sill ???

Bit of a bugger if you have to trailer it away to get it fixed - they're not after the work by any chance?

Be interested to know what they don't like about the sill and how they justify a dangerous unless the ball joint is actually hanging off.

I've just been to the garage to have the stuff explained to me (and to have a ruddy long chat lol).

The previous owner put it through it's last MOT with 2 lumps of body filler in the passenger outer sill (unbeknown to me) and got away with it, but my MOT man noticed it  So he's going to plate them over. That was the "modification".

The lower offside ball joint... they said the locking nut that holds it together is loose? :dontgetit:

I've left it with them and he said he'll do it tomorrow or Friday, and that it'll be about an hour's labour. Other than that he said it's a good solid car, remarkably little rust for it's age >_< He liked my seats too :withstupid: hehe

Also got an advisory for an oil leak from the drive shaft, but hey what mini doesn't leak oil :P and I know it's not much because there are hardly any drips in the garage. I've left the sheets with them because they're fixing it so I have probably put a couple of wrong words in or missed some out lol. Not very knowledgeable :P

So pleased it got through on the headlights and suspension, a pleasant surprise *phew* ^_^

AND I got a massive payrise today for passing my exams so it's not all bad :P

Sounds fair, not at all bad for a mini mot! you might want to work some sill replacement into your roll cage plans. I'll excuse them that 'dangerous' if there was no lock tab on Minty's ball joint - think of him as a toddler running round with their laces undone.

I don't really know how it works - there's nothing missing just something very loose, they were saying hopefully it'll tighten up but worst case scenario is a new ball joint which doesn't sound bad to me.

Thinking about it, the car did feel a bit, well, wondery on the way back from MITP at times, don't know if that's relevant? Might just be me being paranoid and thinking about things now it's failed on something lol.

I don't know at the moment what I'm doing with the roll cage, it might just sit in the garage for a while and end up being sold on, I can't decide whether it's worth it at the moment >_<

to be honest I can't see that it would be much more than cosmetic on a road car - not to mention the possible complications for insurance.

Sounds like the mot was well timed, you'd have had a very loose wheel if the ball joint had unwound fully. I'd imagine it would be better to replace it - only around a tenner for a new one and you could do with a new lock tab to secure it properly any way.

It sounds more like the nut on the balljoint that holds the bottom arm on, rather than the domed nut that makes up/holds the balljoint on.

£150 ( :xxx: ) later and Minty has an MOT >_< (that includes the cost of the MOT)

The welding is a bit rough, can see the 2 patches very blatantly, he hasn't tried to smooth them at all it looks like :ermm:

But they're there, and they're black, and they'll do!

The guy at the garage also said if I want him to fit my stage 1 kit, to go down on a Saturday (when they're shut) and he'll show me how to do it  ... Will have to see how much he'll want to charge for that, but it'd be wicked :P Get to do it up on the ramp in a warm garage with all the right tools

But then he also said that, because he got a bit of dirt on my cream seat ( ) I'll have to go in after my holiday and spank him for it |

your minis not leaking oil, it's just marking it's territory!
The unsatifactory modification to my sills was the steel had become rust! Great job on the car, looks really classy
