Possibly the best piece of advice I have seen posted on this forum. :thumbsup:

Dunno to be honest, I'd expect there to be some evidence to be seen if the disc did catch. I do know this is fixable though, you could have just been unlucky with your choice of donor parts. I really can't see the wheel or anything further away than the cv joint making any difference without it causing very obvious effects as you drive.


Well, it's a gradual change over 2500 or so miles. There is now a little more vibration in the steering column, but nothing alarming, and the ve-vum noise is more pronounced under braking. That's it. :o

If she didn't drive so damn well apart from the racket from her front end then I would have sold her by now. :)

Way back in the day when I was actually part of the glorious BL conglomerate the taper bearings retailed at £40 a side, that was 25 years ago too. No one minded 'because hardly anyone ever needed to buy them they were that bomb proof. Something must have changed, you could try a ball race bearing next as you've tried everything else.
