From just having a quick look, I would say that the best place to mount a radiator would be above the clutch cover, almost horizontally, with a fan below it drawing air through it to cool it.

If you got a radiator with the hose outlets in the right place you'd be able to run hoses fairly neatly behind and in front of the rocker cover to the relevant connections on the engine.

It may mean that you'd have to put a small vent in your bonnet, but something like a Metro GTi type vent wouldn't look too out of place. You'd also need to move your washer bottle elsewhere, and possibly use an earlier, smaller one.

Other than that I think you'd struggle to get it anywhere else, especially as you could end up restricted on the placement of it because of the routing of water hoses.

Other than that, looking good! :)

Front rad I reckon, gonna have to go between or in front of those cross tubes to leave enough space behind for air flow.

I had thought the same as what Tom said to be honest... I don't really think a radiator at the front is going to offer the best solution, mainly in terms of the amount of air I'll be able to get to flow through the rad because of space in front and behind the rad.

Just got these dimensions for an MPi rad from Simon@MS:
37x25x6.5cm
Outlets add 6cm to length and 3cm to depth.

twist the starter round,i think matty on here has done it. only need to redrill and tap one hole as i remmeber and use the smaller alternator and then you can fit a mpi rad in. oh yeah and megajolt.(i might have a cheap going one soon)

Yea, thats like...plan C or D. Thats all going to cost a fair bit of money, and I think it would be cheaper to stick an MPi rad above the clutch if it'll fit...

I'm going to mock up an MPi rad in cardboard when I get home, so you'll see how much room I have later on.

Well...

No way I could get an MPi down the front, unless I relocate the oil filter and the alternator. I couldn't put it above the starter, because then to get it under the bonnet I'd have to tilt it back and then there would be no room for a fan on either side...

So, then I started looking at other possibilities, namely the rad going over the clutch side...

Its definitely a possibility! Theres enough room to get a fan underneath it too.

I also got one of my F3 rads, and realised it will just about fit underneath the starter motor, between the front panel and the gearbox, however I'm not sure if there is much point, as I doubt there will be much airflow, and it would require a remote oil filter...

thats where i suggested yesterday

i thought for air flow you could drill holes in your front valance being fibre glass it would not take much with a hole saw

Babes, Ive got an idea, hear me out...

Cant you put it over the left side like you suggested, but get a smaller window washer bottle or move the bottle so the radiator can slot in...

Tight squeeses

Isnt there room behind the rocker cover bit!! (forgot the name! ;) ) Not as shiney as Monty's
Or put the engine in the boot and the radiators will definately have room in the front then :D :P

The only problem with that, is that directly below the grille, is the number plate, and directly below that is the end of the front panel. Nothing between the grille and the end of the front panel to drill in, other than the licence plate!

moving the number plate would not be a big job

then drill holes in the bottom of the front panel where the number plate was the rad behind here

would that work ?

edit

been looking at you pictures for 1 of this area but can't find one :D

Get the numberplate on the bonnet or the grille, then you can use that space....

Get looking on ebay at heater rads, not mini ones, but all sorts. There are some pretty varied heater rads and bike rads out there. For the sake of emailing a few ebay sellers for some dimensions, you may find an alternative. Then all you'll have to do is get reducers/elbows whatever to make it all fit.

Yea, I've emailed a few sellers about bike rads before, unfortuantely usually with no reply! I think it was Simon who made the suggestion about using several heater matrix' dotted around the 'bay.
