Cylinder block needs refacing on the top, just a nice smooth Finnish rather than going to the extremes of O ringing it.
Bores need glaze busted.
All the rings have been gapped today and fitted to the pistons and attached to the rods.
81mm JE turbo pistons with carrillo rods rated over 600 hp.
The cylinder head, block and top crank case need machining out to take some 12mm head studs and nuts rather than the standard 10mm bolts.
New stronger piston above and the standard one below.
On with the build.
Cheers.

Oh my .......... That is looking sweet Koss!
The conrods and pistons are good for 600hp, but what about the crank (welded or replaced by a stronger one?) and big-end bearings?

I have a choice of two cranks, one standard and the other lightened and balanced with the counter balance wheel removed.
Which one is best leads to great debate. Its all down to harmonics and rotational mass but I might not install a flywheel either
As for bearings just new standard Suzuki clamped together with APE studs and nuts.

The hayabusa crank is a one piece forging so no need for welding. Unless you mean offset welding of the pins to increase the displacement. (stroking). I am keeping standard bore and stroke with 2mm base spacer to keep the compression down.

Surely if your not certain which one to use you just go with the shiney one

For the crank I should go for the balanced and lightened version. With this crank you can rev up quicker (because it is lighter and the balance weights are not needed anymore) and it can be better for the bearings.

The third gear selector fork (controls 4th and 5th) looked a bit poor and below tolerance.
The mains are at the top end of the service limit and need replacing, Again no change from £200.
The gears are striped ready for the heavy duty output shaft. I am having 2nd gear undercut.
Undercutting is basically dovetailing the dogs this locks the gears together under power.
Next update when new parts arrive.

Fitted APE adjustable sprocket on my existing intake cam while I wait for the other cam from the states.
On with the car. 50 feet of exhaust tape and that's as far as it goes. Waiting for more.
Progressing with the throttle pedal made from some copper brake pipe at the moment.
The rear bulkhead was a nightmare. First problem was seatbelt hoops were positioned exactly where the bulkhead meets the floor. Next problem was the exhaust (don't think it was originally designed to have this one) protruding here and there. But after lots of cutting, bending and swearing at my welder its looking the right shape.
by the way my welder has developed a mind of its own.
Installed the lock-up clutch cover to keep Mr sva convinced its a reconditioned engine and to see what clearance I have for other bits.
So its all plumbing and wiring next.
Right! back to work.
