Reet...

I've just walked up to the garage (My God, it's hot outside!)

I took in some photos, to show them what needs doing and what I'm not happy with. They said that it's hard to see from them what needs doing and where bits are etc, so whenever I'm ready, to bring the car in and they'll take a look. (I knew that they'd need to see the car, but best to show them asap what needs doing, so they can't put it down to wear and tear etc, if I left it too long to say anything.)

But they said that they can fit it in next week (or whenever i'm ready and that they'd honour everything and re-do it! :)

And I get the hire car

I've also found some more rust on the A-Panels  So I might get that sorted whilst its in. It all depends on funding!

The spawn of Satan:

>

So..

I'm tackling the timing cover gasket today. I've got the radiator out, the fan and fanbelt etc off and came to the crank pulley. Couldn't get the socket onto the nut to get it off, so I tried with some molegrips. Put it in every gear, but everything just span!!

So, I've had to take the coil off, to get the starter motor out... so I can stop the flywheel from moving

And to get the socket on, I've jacked the engine up, to take the weight and taken the mount off.

So - I'm all set to get the crank pulley off and I just can't budge it! :)

All I want to do is to change a little piece of paper...

have you tried putting the jack handle or some pole over the ratchet?

is there someone holding the screwdriver in the flywheel?

Yeh, there's someone holding the screwdriver and I haven't put another pole over the ratchet....

Basically... because the engine mount's off, I'm kinda scared it's gonna fail and drop :)

So, whilst I've put everything into it that I possibly can, I'm afraid that if I put too much into it, the engine's gonna move loads.... because at the moment, when you put force on it, it does move quite a bit

where's it gonna go though?

does the ratchet fit in the jack handle? try another pole.

axle stands? erm, do you have a bearing to put in the flywheel, they work much better then the screwdriver, and your helper can go and watch from inside :)

well... the jack's on wheels...

If the engine moves, the jack moves! And I don't want the jack to fail or anything :)

I don't have a bearing, no

So, tomorrow, I've gotta take the timing cover off, change the gasket and the crank seal and then just put it all back together again!

I tried to put the engine mount back on, just for overnight - instead of leaving it up on the jack... but I can't get anything to line up!! >

So it's kinda half on, half off and its still on the jack overnight

Hopefully he'll be back on the road tomorrow!! :)

I swear it would have just been easier to just replace the whole flamin' engine! >:P

3 of the timing chain cover bolts won't budge, so they're soaking in WD40 at the mo...

There's just nothing left in the engine bay - it's all on my driveway! :xxx:

I had to take the alternator off, so I could get to the timing cover bolts.... because I can't find my teeny weeny socket, so I've gotta use a spanner - and I couldn't get to them with it in place >

whilst i've got loads of this apart, i think I'm gonna change the bypass hose...

I've got one of those rubbish new types... so I think I'll change it for a piece of solid tubing. because it's only 4 bolts to take the pump off and the hose is looking pretty old anyway! I'd hate for it to go and have to take it all apart again, for the sake of a few pence...

Just need to find someone in town who stocks a water pump gasket now! :P

Yeah, id replace the bypass while you've got it all off, there a sod to get on without taking anything off! If I was you, Id get a couple when you order it, they have a habit of slitting when they go on!!
