It's a shame you're so far away Nev as I'd love to help get Sir D back on the road.

If you ask in here I'm sure you'll get plenty of people lending a hand :shifty:.

October 2011.

After a lot of time away from it all, Sir D is now in the very capable hands of a nearby mini specialist - http://www.m-tech-cars.co.uk/

It's now that I come to realise just how long it's been and how much knowledge I've lost for him. Life it seems is a ******* with the ability to bend you to it's will, wielding me from stem to stern for life's brick walls and crap filled torrents. For me in one of many respects, it has amounted to loosing hope of ever getting this prized mini finished. I almost feel I've done the Mini and classic car community a disservice; 4 years off the road and barely 2 years before then actually being driven. Now, finally, things will move forward.

I have to say it was a huge weight off my chest watching him being towed away today. He's coming back, but as the happy purring press model rather than a block of iron and some painted panels.

See you soon Sir D.

Thanks James :) I'm going to try and get some photos over the next few weeks as I've got some extra parts to deliver to M-Tech's garage. Will try and keep a better log on here for sure.

Update - work started again about 2 weeks ago, it's dawning on me now just how many bits have gone MIA. In any case, M-Tech-Cars is moving forward with Sir D:

Clutch and extra 'leccy bits in place:

NS Sportspack arch fitted, OS apparently lost the new seal somewhere:

Seats reunited with interior:

Bling and new 2" stainless fitted - should a far softer note over the old 3" gasket eater:

Purchasing a high level brake light this week and take some other parts over once the garage has been turfed out.

I ordered from them originally, but it's not in stock. I think my order is still active, so I'll get one if they ever do, but I'm not hopeful. I spoke to Simon at Minispares about it, and he said it's unlikely they'll ever come back, and when I spoke to someone at SCParts (I even tried them!) they said when they had their last batch with the genuine part number they were very poor quality.

The one I got was a NOS Rover item in a smelly old Rover box from 1998, but it was perfect inside. I'll have a dig through my emails and PM you the details.

After bcjames' recommendations I managed to find a genuine high level brake light through XPart item sourcing - complete with Rover installation manual! AE Wilcox - Very helpful garage I have to say. Going to visit SirD again this weekend hopefully to take over some more parts after turning over the garage.

November second visit:

Some great progress made by M-Tech-Cars. ECU, other electricals and the master cylinder/servo fitted. M-Tech-Cars came across some interesting electrical faults so far, switching on the wipers makes the brake lights go on O_O I'm definitely siding on grounding issues.

Spot lights all in check, and not hot-wired to each other anymore.

Posted Image

Dash fitted and brand new steering cowl in place - one without scratches and all the plastic tabs in 1 piece :D

Looking to have the first engine turn over in roughly a week's time. Fingers are crossed!

Looking great Nev. Love seeing this one progress, it's such an iconic car.

Can't wait to see it finished, although I'll also be sad to not have any more progress to look at.

Keep it up!
