Glad you found one Oli! When I looked on part no UK places had one, they must have updated the list. It's the little things that look great, like, your coil pack bracket is still nicely plated :D Although the interior is about the same as my car this look so much more special in this trim :D

Small non-pics update ( *yawwwwwwnnn* yeah no photos, how dull....).

The alternator I had changed over with Minispares was unfortunately a bit of a red herring, first time incorrect for mounting points, second time round the pulley is too big. Aside from that, off-side door is fitted, fuel tank is in, boot door is on. Just needing the alternator, some coach lines, a steering wheel and most importantly a CD player. ;)

Just been told by M-Tech-Cars - engine turning over next week given the electromagical magnet box arrives, will keep you posted.

Hmmm small update:

Need to source some number plates this week, but for fundamentally, Sir D hasn't reached turning over this passed week. The alternator as suspected when I had trouble last time round, has a parts number mix up. There's another one on the way with any luck.

The electrics are continuing to laugh away. Wiper switch has now moved on to the interior light instead of brake lights and the Alarm won't work with the fog light switch on and wont clear unless the high beams are on.. or similar. So far 2 suspect areas are the grounding points not having decent conductivity from the respray, and the relays possibly being mixed up.

Other than that I hope to grab some pictures this week when dropping off new number plates.

Nev I had exactly the same problems with my electrics when I wired them back up. You need to remove the earth points from the left and right hand side of the bulkhead in the engine bay and clean then with some sandpaper before bolting them back to the bulkhead, that should fix your problem.

Would any chafing by the relays behind the servo, or inside the steering column cause similar issues?

Many thanks though Liam will send on that info. Hoping it's something simple :) will keep you posted.

I dont think so. The issue I had was that the earth connectors on both sides of the bulkhead had been off the car for a while and the metal are rusted slightly. Once I cleaned them up and put them back on the car all the electrics worked fine, before that it was total chaos like what you have described.

Update :w00t:

M-Tech found the grounding problems as suspected - cheers Liam :) There were also 2 dash switches plugged in incorrectly (hence the fog light being dodgy) and the MEMS relay connector was connected to the throttle position sensor (and visa versa). The fuel pump thus far isn't priming and my suspicions are after 4 years of doing nothing, it's given up the ghost. Not going to give up yet however, may well be another grounding related problem.

With a few drips of fuel down the throttle body....

...he's turning over and kicking in!

Just need to find where the filler cap wondered off to and see if there's anything else when I visit later on this week. Will get some photos as well. :D

Make sure it's not the inertia cut off switch isn't what is causing the fuel pump not to prime!

He's moving!

Going to go over tomorrow for photos. For now brakes have been bled, fuel pump was sorted and he's moved out and into the garage under own steam. Bought number plates today. That MOT seems mighty close.

It's now so close.... I'm clawing at the desk, increasingly eager to once again drive that long straight highway into the distance.

The bling-bling is back:

Lights are on:

Bonnet covers the completed engine bay (wiper motor remains unimpressed sadly):

Driver side door fitted:

There be blinking lights and clinking things in here now!

The essential high-level brake light:

Window's back in play, and some well-earned stickers:

Last but not least :D

Nearly there! MOT in ~ 2 weeks time.

Well....damn.

MOT was today but one of the brake slave cylinders decided it was best to annoint the floor with DOT4. >_< Better that than get to the MOT garage and then find out of course.

Getting rebooked, watch proverbial space. :mrcool:

Brilliant! I was just about to ask you on Facebook how it went. Congratulations! Just in time for all that muck, salt and ice on the roads :P

The road home.

After gingerly driving down the road on the red line and trying to find where the :xxx: 'ing clutch pedal was hiding, we pull in for a full tank of petrol.

SirD however wasn't in the mood was simply being like the rest of the cars. It took 5 attempts at turning the key and pressing the immobiliser button until he actually decided it was worth driving off - that included a full rendition every time of the alarm going off  . Bloody cheeky tin box....

With an MOT in hand, a new list has come up for minor issues including:

- Wheel alignment and steering wheel correction.
- Possibly shock adjustment.
- The fog-light spade connector that's meant to connect through the bulkhead isn't connected.
- Speedo is slow.
- ..... and how the bloody hell did I even manage to drive it before?!?!?!

My thanks goes out to friends and family for their assistance,
Oli (Hereford.. forget his username) for the engine rebuild,
"Vipernoir" for hubs and breaks rebuild and encouragement,
"cooperjcw" for her ongoing help and assistance and for restoring the original dash to former glory,
Wheddon Cross Garage for the respray and panels
M-Tech-Cars for the last push to completion and road - worthiness.
