From the wiring colours I would take a guess that those relays are headlamp/foglight? Blue/yellow on the right hand one in the pic is for the fog, and I'm sure the red/blue that goes to the other relay is something to do with headlights ;D So probably to bodge that up...

Any wonder my 10amp fuse for spots in the main fuse box kept blowing then!

Are you going to be reshelling to get rid of the grot in the roof, or bare-metal blasting ?

If you need a hand at all, or need parts, give me a shout.

The right hand relay is front driving lights, the left hand is front fog lights. The small fuse holder adjacent to the relays is for the front fog lights and should be 15A. The feed to that fuse is via fusible cable from the starter motor terminal.

Hard to tell from the photos, but does the bodged wire connect the terminal with the blue/white cable on the driving lamp relay to the terminal with the purple/blue cable on the fog lamp relay?

Obviousy with all the wiring out it is going to be difficult to assess exactly what the bodge is for - I would remove the bodged wire then, once the car is rebuilt, we can work through what doesn't work and why and design a better bodge solution.

I really dig the detailed stitching on the top rail covering.

Just a quick update - interiors out, and front subby all released, wiring looms out as well (with more bodge noticed behind the fuse box!) - just no means to get the shell off. Next weekend sees both subbys off for me to touch up and re-jig, and the engine making a car-less trip up to Hereford...real work comenceth.

I really dig the detailed stitching on the top rail covering.

Yeah it was as standard with all 40s, the Seven and Knightsbridges... thinking of having somthing done very similar to the bottom rail but not sure yet.

Well its the dawn of D(og)-Day....

....love the smell of DOT-4 in the morning.

Got the garage prep'd and wheel nuts loose, all ready for a 9am kick off, then a text.

"Hi mate, gonna be late, will be there 12ish"

The battle continues.

Yeah thats right, V203 is an automatic with air con, and mine is cooper sport dash with manual. :- Apparently lives on the south coast near Sydmouth... but 3 trips down there didnt produce anything noteable.

Well dog's just gone back home with the engine, also have exhaust reay to split down, and both subframes are now off. Pictures later on.

I know the picture in the link is taken at the docks but something smells fishy, the Tahiti blue sportspack at the back looks like a Cooper Sport ( Nickle silver roof, bonnet strips interior etc) but its registered on a V plate which makes it a 99. But i was sure the Cooper Sport was a 2000 model with the the very early ones possibly getting on to W plates but mostly X plates like mine. Anybody enlighten me?
