50k = super rich???

Er... These days that's plain-jane middle class.

What annoys me is it's generally the work shy, 10 kid having, dole receiving, illness faking, scum(!) that hate students the most. WHY??

jealous that you might just one day make a few quid to support the 2 children you'll have because you cant afford any more.
Scroungers are jealous of anyone better than them. If any scroungers are offended by my comments.... tough.
Frankly im offended that my tax is going to pay for your booze and fags.

My dad has worked all of his life and shall we say reasonalble for cornwall elsewhere it is peanuts - not to mention house prices in cornwall! But hey he works hard looks after his family. All very well moaning till your blue in you face about other people but as long as you are ok ( surviving) and are happy then surely thats what matters. There are alot of benifit people where we life why would i want to waste my life spitting at them!

Self preservation is the way foward!

lets all just sit down, have a cup of english breakfast tea and talk through our problems. Why are other people obsessed about how much work other people do to earn money and housing etc... It doesn't matter, anger at other other people is just frustration at your lot, if suddenly other people had these things taken away from them, it doesn't mean you would get any more. It is egotistical and shortsighted to believe you are being hard done to. There is no such thing as society or classes, they are convenient tools used by certain groups to hold on to the monopoly of money, laws etc. Let it pass you by and enjoy yourself you are not here that long. :P

Ethel, very well put, but haven't the super-rich done something to get there in the first place?

They haven't scrounged money from the government to get there have they? Surely company directors have actually worked, very hard, to get to that point?

I agree though with the idea that the super rich (say, 50k a year +) should be taxed more, and that money syphoned directly to initiatives to increase the minimum wage to at least £8 an hour to encourage "dole scroungers" to get a job.

Another idea which I'm inclined towards is this. If you're claiming JSA (job seekers allowance) and are not disabled, and cannot work due to illness - be given 6 months to find a job. If you can't get one in 6 months (you can apply for McDonalds tomorrow and start the day after!) then you have to work for your benefits, full time, doing community work - cleaning the streets, cleaning grafitti, things that benefit the local area. Yes people will grumble but it will encourage respect and appreciation for the society they live in. And if they get fed up of it, they can always get that job at McDonalds that the refused to take!

If we're not careful Jammy will be introducing compulsory hugs 'n general niceness again :P

But...

I have nothing against the Richard Bransons, Alan Sugars or JK Rowlings who have genuinely generated a lot of wealth - not only for themselves. The fact remains having more money than you need to live off means you can generate even more wealth - by buying shares in Virgin 'n Amstrad. You could even become a property developer (Sugar's latest venture) or bank roll the hysteria of getting on the property ladder (Branson, if his mate Gordon hands him the Mortgage book of Northern Rock). Either way you'll be collecting a tidy profit out of the pockets of the working man just because you have the financial clout to dominate the market for the necessity that is putting a roof over your head. Who knows you may even get to cream in some of those benefits you begrudge those at the bottom of the pile, in rent for the homes they haven't a hope in hell of owning.

He might have been overtaken by one of the foreign fat cats that have found a haven in the UK (even if their fortune and tax liability stays firmly off shore), but the Duke of Westminster is very likely still the richest home grown 'talent'. I've met the guy, and though he's amiable enough and even supports the odd good cause he's hardly the sharpest tool in the box and has never had to do a proper day's work in his life just because he happens to have inherited half of the City of London.

I read today that the queen's being given something like another £13 million on top of a sum that she was already given...or maybe it was a sum on top of the £13 millions, I'm not so sure, anyway, it's so she can carry out (obviously not herself!!) repairs and general stuff to all of the royal properties

Now I know the royal family bring in a lot of tourism and therefore money into the economy, but that much money on the upkeep of some stately homes :techsupport: It's a tad bit extravagant now isn't it!

As for students and our supposed tax dodging, lots of students take on part time jobs during term and or part/full term jobs during their holidays. On top of that we get taxed on the money that we borrow, as well as taxed on the money we eventually will be earning and then some of that money will go towards paying off said debt (which gets bloomin' interest added per month!!). You may also notice that students are in general not working and therefore not earning, yet we still pay tax on everyday things such as anything we buy, transport etc just like everyone else!! So  to you Mister Pie

I don't work and don't pay tax.

I'm currently living off a student loan, whilst studying my degree.

Am I going to be cast out and burnt at the stake?

I agree.

People who are able to work unless disabled or a full time carer to a disabled person or in some other MAGER circumstances, should be made to work and reassessed by both the government and a doctor, work should then be found for them if something simple like McDonalds or a supermarket or anywhere and people should be made to work and if they don't work or refuse too, then they should be entitled to nothing. I have a reasonable education, I’m quite good at maths and have skills in allsorts and yet I work at Tesco stacking shelves. I would like another job at the moment, I can’t dowt that but I’m proud of my job and take pride in my work.

I work with Ben (Elisha the cooper) and for me to live I have to work 7 days a :P week and I shouldn't have to do it, it should be a nice 9-5 job Monday to Friday but ok that’s life and it’s my choice to stay there for the time being.
We even have people working with us that have been to uni and have degrees and yet they are just as happy-ish working there, EARNING A  LIVING!

It also goes without saying that giving houses to so called single young slappers, sorry – women is  mental. Especially when there run away boyfriends suddenly turn up a month later when the lass gets the peeing house! And all she says is, he’s supporting her and helping her out in her time of need and he get’s to live there for :techsupport: free aswell! USE THE PILL! it's what it's there for.

There is no bloody justice for the everyday/night worker and I think this country as lost the peeing plot.

Scotty.

I'm fed up of people moaning when they don't know the full story. Reading the papers and watching the news doesn't mean you know the full story, or even the true story.

Well, as a Nation, we like to have a good moan. And a nice queue. :P And a moan in a nice queue. And then a cup of tea with maybe a biscuit & a whinge.....

It is amazing how much we take this country for granted & over inflate our "sufferings". At least we have a National Health Service to take care of us when we sick or injured & a welfare system to support us when we can't work for whatever reason. I'm quite happy that I live in this fortunate part of the world. :P

I take it people are no happier today then? :techsupport:

I was never moaning :techsupport:

I agree with what you said on the first page people just arnt happy with what they have!

I havent got much possessions wise (think most people would kill for a mini or anykind of car though) and id like to be a bit thinner but owel im breathing and have a roof over my head  and i can walk out the door into a reasonalbly stable society where i do have the right to voice my opinon ( to enough degree that i would want to ) with out getting shot or excuted for my beliefs.
