I've guessed I'll need another £500 odd to finish the front, that includes everything, It's all a bit scary to be honest. The MOT is top priority, that's just something I can't put off, so I'll get through that and see how much cash I've got left.

My front flip can wait a few months, if not more.. which is a great shame, but there isn't much I can do about it unfortunately!

I've even had a terrifying thought about what I'll do with the mini whilst I'm at University :D

Ive got my mini at uni, ive got mates with cars here, the problem comes when you live in halls in your 1st year. If you get a house, it's no problem. Or go in halls, and park your car in the nearest public car park. I know plenty of people doing it. Or just leave it at home for a year then get it when you get a house.

Anyway your car is looking good, keep up the good work.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Cheers for that Elliot! does actually make things easier :D.

But yeah I can live without a few things, might even go bumperless and put the stick-on numberplate? I could easily get that £300 down to £200, which will be a lot easier on the wallet.

Exactly my point :P, it doesn't need to be expensive now, it can be expensive over a period of time. Your car will survive just fine without a grill and bumper and with your old lamp surrounds :).

Minis are never finished anyway :).

Definitely made me feel much better about things! Forgetting about the grille and bumper for now will save me about £140!

Aka this style,

To me it doesn't look finished but it looks bloody brilliant at the same time.

Deathrows right prioritise. dread to think how much i've spent, but it's over a long time so i
don't really notice it..... still cheaper than buying a tooled up car and it's unique to me :D

Cheers for that Freddy, I was wondering what you'd be able to see without a grill being there. I think once I've given the engine a lick of paint and everything a clean it'll look the nuts >_<.

Yeah that's true, but there isn't anything else I can really put there.. even if I put some mesh there I'd still have the same problem!

My clubbie came with something similar to this Distributor Shield Cover. Seems to do the job quite nicely.

Well I don't think I'll be doing this flip front for another few months and by then the weather would've improved.. I hope >_< & I might be able to afford a grille by then anyway.

I'm off to work until 6, but something to let you lot ponder over.. I need to somehow fix the a-panels to the flip front, I was thinking of welding on a tab and putting a bonnet pin either side? It would work but I'd love something hidden, perhaps a latch on the underside or something?

Been playing around with my decals tonight, came up with this arrangement which I think would look brilliant. I've got 2 of each sticker so when it finally comes around to painting I can just remove these ones and apply the new ones.

Posted Image

Doesn't look much now but once it's on the mini, with the lights, indicators & everything else it obviously won't look as bland, any other suggestions for where the decals might look good?

I reckon they might look quite tasty with one on each a-panel and then one at a slight angle on the bonnet in the corner. Or possibly one on each of the wings in the corner where they meet the a-panel.

Good idea Carboy, I'll have a go with some sticky tape later and see how it looks >_<.

Gonna go out now and try & sort out these electrics for the final time, there was a wire leading into the cabin from the inline fuse which is the Hazards/Interior light, it's slightly chard & the wire is visible through the plastic so I'm guessing that the problem lies beneath the dashboard, stereo system & alarm wiring.. I'll carefully peel everything back and have a look see.

Just come in for some lunch, absolutely starving.

So far I've taken the dashboard & disconnected all the wiring from the stereo system, then I tried having a look behind the 'sound deadening' & sponge but it was near impossible, so I ripped it all out >_< but don't worry, it'll be replaced when I take her off the road :sneaky: It just makes current jobs a damn sight easier, and I need these Hazard lights for the MOT.

Pictures so far,

I'm also considering selling my Sound System, I wouldn't miss it to be honest, and it's money I desperately need at the moment. Future plan was a Center Binnacle anyway to fit in with the MK1/2 rally style so I would've ended up selling it somewhere down the line, only reason I've feel bad for selling it is that my Dad put a lot of effort into wiring it up.. but I hope he'll understand :w00t:

Back in for good now, the light is going and I've got sketchbook work to do tomorrow.

& I thought I'd done it! I had the Hazards working for a good 10 minutes, I was halfway through removing the sound system and they started working, so I carried on removing it and they stopped.. back to square one, my guess now is that the Alarm system has got something to do with it, seeing as it takes a feed from the Hazards. There must be a short somewhere and I've disturbed it, I've been through all the visible wires and can't see anything wrong but there is a big tangle of wires where the alarm unit sits behind the heater. Anyway, I've tidied up all the wiring, removed my sound system and dashboard, which are both up for sale.

Sound System:

Click.

Dashboard:

Coming soon.

I'll be on the lookout for a Center Binnacle at Bingley Hall or if anyone has got one/knows someone selling, let me know >_<.

Pictures (apologies some are blurred & rushed)

Everything out and tidied up,

How it stands now,
