put it in reverse, the pin comes straight out. If you're replacing the front panel then definately cut it away - you wont have to lift the body as high then. And definately remember to support the subby properly or it'll just take a nose dive into your driveway

Tried reverse, tried every gear! tried knocking it out both ways.. It'll be much easier to remove when the engine is away from the body, so I'll just wait till then, the sump was literally 2 inches from my face so I didn't have much room at all.

Cheers for your help/advice mate :)

So excited about it all

Don't do it!! Dont cut the front end off just to get the subby out!

Just take your time!

He's replacing the front end anyway. Why not get rid of part of it if it makes the job at hand now easier?!

Felt like buying something but I didn't want to put in a big Minispares order until I've got the engine & subby out, then I can have a look at the mounts etc.. so I just ordered 2 'novice' stickers, the type that track day cars have :) also going to fit an engine cut out switch on the scuttle with the correct decals, just for looks but I will be wiring up the cut out switch

I know that youve dropped the linkage now, but if you put the car in reverse you can tap out the roll pin towards the cars floor and it will come out. Its a pain, I use a metal punch and a hammer and it comes out. May be easier to move the car out of the way if the linkage isnt in the way. Oh and just curious why do you need a nut to remove the tower bolts? do you mean socket?

Cars coming along nicely, good luck with the rest of it.

Oh and arn't you worried about pikies playing with your battery cut off. It might be annoying having to take the red key out all the time.

Sorry yeah I meant Socket! It was left in Grandads garage when we took my mini across there to change the front tie rod bushes.

& I must have spent about 45 minutes trying to get that Roll pin out, wasn't budging at all! once the engine is out though it'll make it so much easier, can get more of a swing to it.

Nah because it looks good :D isn't that much of a task to take the key out, it'll be fine I'm sure

I really wouldnt put the cut off on the scuttle. Hide it somewhere inside the car and use it as an immobiliser. Generally the ones on racers are the pull cord type rather than a key. To my way of thinking - it would be pretty easy for water to get into it and cause corrosion, then you got problems. Plus you have the bother of bringing the battery cable up to it.

Hi just noticed that your plug leads are numbered in wrong order they should be NO: 1 at rad end as thats where timming set from...............

Hi chaps

It wasn't done with that in mind, simply if he was to remove the plug leads for any reason it would be a easy to replace them correctly but point taken. :D

No real update.. Dad is picking up the socket & some more axle stands from Grandad tonight, spoke to Dad this morning about if I should order panels and it seems they are pretty pointless at the minute, they'd only sit around for another month.. so I'm going to place an order some bits from MOSS in terms of paint & primer, then I'll order some nice engine bits from Minispares :proud: high pressure water pump, new gaskets, new spark leads maybe, new poly subby brushes & engine steadies..

So my focus for the time being is removine the engine and subby, then I'll split them.. tart the subby up and secure it back to the shell so when it comes to welding the shell won't twist. Then I can focus purely on tarting the engine up :genius: good times.

You are going to want to solid mount your front subframe if your going for a flip front!
