Time for a good update! Steve & his son came over early afternoon to pick the wheels up, really nice lads, suggested that he should start his own project thread here ;)

& before I start, apologies for the large amount of pictures! trigger happy again.

Kicking off with some parcels that arrived yesterday, one was a full set of nuts/bolts & washers for the rear subby which I picked up from ebay. The other was a box containing a brand new radiator, Dads mate whose doing the Band of Brothers ride with him gave it to me :dontgetit: not sure if I'll use it as it's a standard Rover mini radiator, as apposed to my almost new Uprated 2 core Minispares rad.

Then I set about removing the shock mounts to see what they were hiding behind them, not pretty >_<

& wire brushed down to remove all the rot.. gaping hole!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then I pulled off the bit of mesh/putty that was at the top of the inner wing..

Posted Image

Not much left!

Posted Image

Steering rack out, which made accessing the clevis pin easier..

Posted Image

Brake servo off and out, sheered a few bolts in the process..

Posted Image

Bit of rust.. you'll see how that ends up later, no points for guessing :P :X

Posted Image

Engine steady with earth strap out.

Posted Image

Clutch reservoir out, clevis pin wasn't that hard to remove which was a nice surprise :)

Posted Image

& the rusty patch behind poked with a screwdriver..

Ah, all fixable! You'll need new shock mounts tho! I've never seen the mounts that bad!

Word of warning with that bolt kit for the rear subby, make sure the bolts are the right thread! I bought a kit like that from ebay, dunno who the supplier was, but they wern't. They sent me metric bolts.

The correct thread is 5/16" Thread with a 1/2" Head (that's for the subframe to heelboard, 4 long bolts going into the rear of the sill/rearbin area)

The other bolts all have nuts, so you can use metric here if you wish. (The four bolts in the boot floor)

Yup she'll be treated to new shock mounts >_< more expense though!

This was the kit I ordered, doesn't specify whether they are metric or not though..

Ebay link.

These are genuine UNF replacement bolts and not metric equivlents that dont fit properley

That's a good sign.

Before you put them in, i'd recommend you go to your local hardware store, and buy a 5/16 UNF tap (thread size) to clean out all the *melon* from the threads in the heelboard.

If you can get your hands on an unf tap +die set, you'll find rebuilding this car muuuuch easier.

I skimmed through that 5 times to check before saying it didn't state about being metric >_<

I'll pop into Gearbox soon and ask about either the 5/16 UNF tap or the tap +die set, cheers Dez!

Also a little thought (things like this keep me going because I can look forward to what is in store :X) 1.5 negative camber arms on the front to improve handling & make her sit really nice.

Hey good work, I can beat whats hiding under clutch/brake reservoirs, have a laugh at this.

Mine had a piece of metal bent in place to hide it !

You're making me feel really lucky about how my bulkhead has come out but I think I'll wire wheel the lot before I get too giddy haha.

As per shock mounts. I've got a spare set kicking around here and I've also a pair of 1.5 negative camber arms I might want rid of. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Are they the lowered type shock mounts? been looking at a set of Minispares & they are an inch longer to cope with the extra strain.

Got a tad bored tonight & with some inspiration from this video, video link.

I've decided I might make myself a new dashboard, if you remember I had one custom made by Bert with some speaker holes which were reinforced to take the weight, well I would much prefer a flat single sheet of thin MDF painted in black or covered in black faux suede, middle hole cut for the large MK1 speedo & evenly spaced holes cut either side for the smaller 52mm gauges.

I attempted a shoddy mock up from cardboard just to get a general shape, as you can see it's a mile off from how Nics looks in the video above, but it was just a quick idea.

Posted Image

& I also taped in the MK1 conversion plates and fixed the lights in, just for my own enjoyment, looks good huh? :(

Get the correct imperial spanner on there, and give it a few taps with a big hammer, might break the rust.

Nice valve caps by the way!!
