Nope you obviously do not know the highway code do you. I bet he was on a single carraige way with a limit of 60mph, whihc means by law he is not able to go faster than 40mph, 50mph on a dual carraige way and 56mph on a motorway.

Yes they have to slow down, funnily enough they don't handle like minis round corners

Yea I do know how slow there allowed to go.
just like I know lorries are not supose to overtake them!

but...
its the fact that every... single... lorry that causes me being late too work... is....
You guess it! A TESCO LORRY!

no other lorry goes slow.
tesco's are doing 30-40mph at all times!!!!!

you'd feel different if you took my journey to work each day :P

I have to say Id rather they were doing that speed than 60. There are hundreds of 60 limits in the UK where a good number of cars cant do that speed safely, let alone lorries.

I also think you would complain if there was no food on the shelf in Tescos when you went for your weekly shop. And if you dont shop at Tescos, all the other supermarkets all have lorries delivering stuff!

Just grin and bear it. Sometimes, its nice just to literally bimble along the whole way when you can't control the situation.

Being in the army at the moment I want to get as many licenses as I can. You should try driving a left hand drive land rover on English roads. That alone makes me respect the skill of lorry drivers.

Thats not to say they are not annoying. Some of them do perform crazy stunts like trying to overtake each other up hill on a dual carriageway. Its not the same, but we had a coach pull in front of us today. Just went and indicated at the same time. Luckily we were in my mates Jag which was able to slow right down quickly. If I was in the Mini it would have been close I can tell you.

If it continues to be a pain, just leave for work a bit earlier.

You should be thankful that they know their high way code. Lorry drivers, mainly good sensible drivers.

a friend of mine was riding his motorbike on way home from work and a polish lorry driver simply failed to comprehend him and pulled out from a side turning and ben had no choice but to kiss the lorry. he is better now but was in hospital for a week and both hands were totally screwed and he suffered a lot of bruising to his pelvis. i hate foreign lorry drivers as they have no idea, i hate motor bikers as they are a law unto themselves, and i hate some british lorry drivers as they also think they are a law unto themselves. my brother in law happens to be a class 1 driver, and i have been out on the lorry with him a few times, and he is a f**king good driver. he is 1 of the few good drivers, pity all lorry drivers arent like him! mixed views really! but tesco, yeah i hate them! insurance department is the worst part tho!

As I posted when it happened last year - my cousin was killed on his motorbike on his way to work, a lorry hit him head on.

Now, you would imagine that my whole family would hate lorries and lorry drivers for ever after this terrible accident.... but that's just it- it was an accident. Everybody has accidents, surprisingly enough even foreign lorry drivers have them.

I do however, think that if you're driving abroad for a living in something as huge and powerful as a lorry, that there should be seperate driving tests taken for each country you drive in (maybe there is such a system- I don't know?)..... it would just make more sense to know that everyone on our roads actually knows what they're doing!

But to say that someone is "one of the few good drivers" out of the thousands of highly experienced HGV drivers on our roads today, is just a bit daft.... :-

what gets me is...

when I overtake the lorry's they move out further to bloke me from doing it.
then if a lorry coming other way, he moves over to stop me too...

not only that, Lorry's over taking each other on duel carrigeways are P***ing me off
why do they do it?

please tell me?
they race each other for about 2 football pitches if not more,
then the lorry finally pulls in, cut's the other lorry up!

seen it plenty of times.

just because they drive a HUGE lorry doesnt mean they own the road.

sorry... I just dont like lorry's.
too big!

and they tailgate me up my ass.

Take deep breaths.... absorb the information that without lorries on our roads we wouldn't have anything to buy in our shops, we wouldn't have fuel in our petrol stations, etc etc, basically the world would come to a grinding hault!

They have to use the roads, there is no other way for them to do it. They have to stick to the speed limits and regulations set by their own individual employers, hence why one lorry 'could' be allowed to drive at 56 and another is restricted to 48 by his company (or heavy loads)- you get them over taking.

and they tailgate me up my ass.

If they're tailgating you then surely you're driving way below the set speed limit, getting in their way? As they're restricted and can't by law go as fast as your mini...... :-

Clash of statements? First driving too slow, now too fast....

The reason they 'own' the road is because they need to own to the road. With even the mildest bend in the road (let alone coming out of a T-junction) they need to fore-plan both the swing angles in order to get the trailer round and 'dead zone' (imagine a lorry turning, and visualise the triangle created between the front of the cab + rear of the trailer - anything caught within that space is :-).

You don't like lorries because they are too big? a) Without lorries, you get nothing, and b) They probably don't like you because you're too small and drive like an impatient .

I just read the whole of this tread and i have to make one comment

' A responsible and courteous lorry driver would realise that he can only do a certain speed and after building up a sufficient tail back would pull into a layby for a minute or so to allow the traffic to pass and then move off again. Would cost the lorry driver a couple of minutes but think of the time it would save the other 30-40 drivers behind him collectively.

Now im not suggesting he does this every 10 minutes as i realise that he has to make progress as well but a little thought would help to try and change the image that they have from other road users.

This also applies for caravans and cars towing trailers but all to often you see a 'ill do what i like' attitude

And i used to drive 13.m long double decker coaches so i know all about the difficulties of driving long vehicles

Where a) safe, b) possible (ie: there is actually a lay-by, or place to stop) and c) time permits.

I think....

people are just digging now at me for this thread.
no where did I ever say I think all lorry's should be banned.

no where did I say they dont drive well.

All I said in my first post...
was... TESCO lorry's should be banned... hence the Title of this thread.

some people need to lighten up... and not take things too seriously.
others...

dont know a joke when they see it.
thats all I'm going to say now...

talk about killing a (what I thought...) was a fun thread

now its just gone over the top.
