Q: your mini is being slated on the mini forum, so bunch of. I tell you I sold a mini van to a kid he looked over the thing for over an hour complainig that it was not an original 1970 van but a latter 1980s van yet he still bought it then 2 weeks later said he was not happy and wanted his money back due to the fact that it was not a 1970 van I refused to give him his money back he took me to court over it and youll never belive it but he won the day???????????? He knew what he was buying befor he gave me the money I never held a gun to his head and the kick in the balls was I had to collect the van over 200 miles away and he ended up with over £400 worth of compensation. Just be carfull this does not hapen to you make it very clear with a receipt of what has been done to the mini. Buy the way it looks great wish I could have it lol Thanks Sean 17-Aug-08
A: thanks for the info. people are very sad if all they have to do all day is talk about wheather or not the car should be on a q plate. if it was it would be worthless! i was at mini in the park today and saw a 1990 mini mayfair which had a 1964 b plate on it. it had nothing 1964 about it. it even had all the mayfair stickers on it. everyone does it. its just to what extent its been done. i cant see how me building this car pretty much from scratch from parts ive bought and trying to keep it origanal as possible and looking like it should is so out of the ordinary? at least its not just had a set of number plates screwed on it. at least its trying to look like what it is. if we all went by the letter of the law then almost all of the cars you see at shows would be on a q plate. you show me a 49 year old mini thats been used all its life that has the origanal engine, glass, subframes etc, because if it hasnt according to everyone whos sad enough to coment on things that dont concern them it should go on a q plate! but im sure that who ever wins this will know exactly what it is and take it as that. many thanks to you and all of you who have written to me letting me know about all the anoracks comments.
I can see his point but he is missing the difference between new and second hand parts.
I just want to confirm that I was really serious about buying, what is a really great looking car - if it had the late plate on it then thee would not be a problem at all. Its the early plate that causes issues, and the fact its registered as a 1960 odd car.
My old TVR had a 1989 plate on it, its a private plate, but its still registered as a 1999 so the example of the Mayfair does not really help his arguement.
Why wont he register it as the MPI! I would be straight in there with my money!
