British doesn't mean what it did 100 years ago but try and look at it at a different angle.

Ok yes we have immigrant issues - who doesn't? To put it into perspective every American is an immigrant!

To me Britain means a whole bunch of things we've done more for the people of this world than every other country!

And it still gives me tingles down my spine to hear the national anthem on T.V,

However it doesn't mean I am happy with the current state of affairs we still have a certain togetherness that other countries don't have but it seems to have been left behind in the 50s. And don't get me started with the sell-out government, which seems to have ditched its labour roots to become a completley different and divided party.

I love that your having a moan about people entering our country.. But you all want to leave and move to another country..

Doesn't that make you a immigrant? (if just in the future!)

I don't mind immigrants entering.. They do jobs no one else wants to.. etc..

The trouble is the folk who are British but don't work and just get the money! Go moan about them.

It does make you an immigrant but the difference is that people moving from Britain to another country either a) retire there with their own money or b) move and get a job because the country they're moving to will not be as generous (read as "soft") to them as we are to immigrants and give them free shelter, food, etc...

You're partially right with the second bit. Immigrants do the crappy jobs that a lot of lazy brits simply do not want to do. But is this benefitting the economy?

You're still having to support the lazy brits by paying them benefits and schooling their abusive offspring and you're still having to fork out for the extra burden on public services that immigrants bring. If a person earns less than about £26-27,000 a year, on average they are actually costing the country money as opposed to having a positive impact on the economy. We can safely say that most immigrants earn significantly less than that, because they do the low-end of the scale jobs.

Also the fact immigrants will work for less than Brits is a big problem because greedy companies are offering lower pay knowing immigrants will take the jobs.

The problem of mass immigration and near colonisation of some areas of the major cities of the UK is way beyond repair now, but years ago when people started flooding in, someone in the government should've put a halt to it, and forced the lazy brits into the jobs the migrants were doing.

Then you wouldn't need immigration at all, certainly not on the scale of several hundred thousand a year.

P.S. you say you don't mind immigrants entering the country, have you ever tried living in an area where you're a minority?

being british at the moment seems to be little c**ts with knives saying stuff like "isn't it bruv" "brap brap". bring back the old school were respect was earnt. old fashion disciplin methods should come back, stop wrapping everyone up in cotton wool.

apart from that... hot cross buns, tea and toast, fish'n'chips.

theres a line on the italian job where bridger says "there are thngs to an englishman that are sacred" he was talking about toilet time. i totally agree with that lol

what the hell! I am suprised to hear folks S.h.i.t talking their own Country.

I was Born here but raised in Washington State in the U.S. I have only lived here for 13 years and have seen some pretty big changes.

Immigration does seem a bit out of controll at the moment but it is everywhere.Back home the Mexican population is massive. The second language is Spanish. If you cant speak it your basicaly Fuc*ed in the southern areas like California.

Has anyone been to Bulgaria or Romania? If you havnt then you have no idea of what hard living is all about.I dont blame them for coming here as they get a better life.Labour has gone overboard with letting everyone in .There should be some form of controll. Not sure what but something.

Britain is not a lost cause. If it is,it's down to those who are too apathetic to do anything for change. TRY VOTING! England has just about the worst track record for voting in all of Europe. It's disgusting that our Families fought for the right and people never use the greatest tool in Democracy. If you don't like it,do something about it.Dont whine like a Bit*h about the state of things...vote.

I love England. If necessary I would fight for it like I did when I was in America and joined the Marines. This place is a bloody marvel...open your eyes. I think maybe some of you would benifit from a trip outside of the suburban battlefields into the great parts of this country. Go to Cornwall,Go to Scotland,Go to your coast and to your mountains. Visit the countryside and meet the real backbone of England. In the countrside is where I find my solitude after living in "crack den" London.

The entire country does not resemble the asbo toting, illeagal immigrant housing ,chav infested S.h.i.t hole many make it out to be. If you don't like it do something about it. This your country. This is your home. If it's broken then fix it.Don't run away to another country with your tail stuck between your legs, stand up and be counted man!

I am spoiled by the fact I have Dual citizenship. I can either liver here or the US...I'm here because I love it as well.

Don't like the government..change it, vote!
Dont like yobs running the streets...confront them.Don't back down.Show them who is Boss.Give them a slap.I sure as hell do and suprisingly they retreat.

Do whatever you like in Life people..but have the respect not to run down your own country. This place is a real gem. Your Granfathers and Uncles thought so too thats why they went off to war and give you the freedoms you have today. You don't appreciate the freedoms because you take them for granted and don't use them.

There are enough people in this Country who don't give a s.h.i.t. about it from other parts of the world. Don't add to the apathy. Be English and be proud!

I agree with you Andy, well said!

I'm more than proud to be British and so is my mini :(

Things that remind me of britishness are fish n chips, tea made all proper like, real marmite, our comedy, military forces, music, umbrellas, moaning about the weather*, standing in a queue and all the cheesy icons of London :D *Actually just moaning in general :P *

The Union Jack and national anthem always stir a hell of a lot of pride in me when used in the right context.

What is it to be British? To put up woth imergernts
What is Britain all about? imergrents
What symbolises Britain? pass...

I would say a grasp of the English language would help for a start! :D :(

Well recently, with current personal issues, I've decided I don't like England.

one.
The Pound is no where near as stong as it was, who's idea was it to bring the Euro in?

At one point the Pound was extremely strong against the Euro, and its currently very strong against the dollar, I don't really get what point you're trying to make here?

two.
Living costs, people are struggling!! Doesn't matter if your poor, average or rich, we're all in the same boat! We're over taxed, there are other issues but I am not going air them all.

Have a look at the taxes of some other countries! Ok, so we have high tax on fuel, compared to most countries, but for other things our tax isn't that bad.

three.
Property. As a young lad, I, aswell as others, want my own place, but thats not going to happen with the current "credit crunch", and the goverment playing silly buggers with taxes.

Blame America and the stupid people around the World that didn't know how to deal with their own finances for that one.

four.
Poor country managment. Seems, like this country has no structure of organisation any more. Putting a bad on domistic disapline was a bad move. Kids aren't being slapped, or disaplined like I was when I was a lad, so they get away with blue murder! Litrally!

With all the thing above, I've decided to do my life plan, Work my fingers to the bone, and get as much cash as I can pysically get, and bugger off. I know other countries have there own affairs, but here... its just silly.

I agree with kids not being disciplined anymore, but that has as much to do with social movements and the governments of the past 3 or 4 decades as anything else.

And for those moaning about the current government. Turn the clock back 10-15-20 years and you'll hear the same arguements. Governments rarely do the bidding of the people, and its generally a case of the lesser of two/three evils that gets voted in every four years.

Personally, many things make me proud to be British. Like the fact that we were able to send such a cosmopolitan team to the Olympics, and that they came 4th in the World, when we have a population that is a fraction of those teams that finished above us.

TVR makes me proud to be British. I don't care if they are now funded by a Russian and two Americans, the people doing the real work are still British. In a similar vein I'm proud that if an F1 team wants to succeed they set up camp in England and employ a dozen British engineers to work for them, because us Brits are regarded are amongst the best automotive engineers in the world.

I'm proud that we have one of the best Armys, Navys and Air Forces, and Police forces, despite what you read in the sensatialist newspapers

I'm proud that we produce some of the best entertainment the World sees, from programmes funded by the BBC, to music groups and films.

All in all, there are very few places I'd chose to emigrate to in order to find a better style of living, and out of those places I'm sure we only think their grass is greener because we don't get to hear about their problems.
