to be honest honest i think the only option to this problem is moving the fuel filler inside the boot, and the fuel lines inside the car.
any beefy fuel cap is just going to result in more damage.

the best thing i can suggest if ur car is close enough. is set up one of those security lights with the infra red sensors so anytime someone walks by the light will come on. could also rig up a light to come on in you're bedroom on the same circuit.

my dad used to have the security lights rigged up to a buzzer in his bedroom. but after the fifth cat he soon disconected that.

Moving the filler cap isn't really an option as ive have no clue about how to go about it, and a garage would cost me lots of money which I don't really have atm :)

I can wire up a security light though that will come on with movement - its a rented house though, so would have to check before I start drilling holes randomly! hehe

cant see it being a problem, it'd be extra security for the house too.
failing that get a big wooden post and mount it on that.

Alternately have a scout about and see if you can find something like this:

http://www.syphon-sound.co.uk/

For less than the price of a small country or ask around on here and see if someone could rig something similar up for you?

there 99 quid and for lorrys. bit to big for a mini, and pricy!!

but im sure someone could knock sumthin similar up, and maybe weld it in. (obviously with fuel and fumes removed)
might even look into it myself, i work in at a sheet metal fabricators. how much do ya think people would be willing to pay for a fuel filler mesh?

the only problem i see with this is how long before someone drills it?
or just goes under ur car and cuts ur fuel pipes?

With a bit of luck if it wasn't worth their while they'll move on to victimising someone else. A notice sounds an idea.

I think something like a waste pipe bottle trap would be better, but if they were determined you'd just find your fuel line cut instead.

If there was fuel spillage in the road sounds like they might be syphoning directly in to their car, so a camera may do the job.

If you have a drive with a garden next to it you could park the mini on the drive with the filler cap facing the garden, then dig a big pit (i'm thinking 6 n a half foot should be deep enough) then cover it with twigs and some turf. Kinda like a tiger trap, then keep a long bamboo cane in the house so when you get up in the morning and there is someone in there you can keep prodding them until your hearts content or till the police turn up!

although if you happen to get up and your postie/milkman/local school child who does the paper round is in there it could lead in to all sorts of legal issues but it's an idea!

Thats what im hoping will happen...(not that I want someone else to be targeted)

The fuel spill was on the road but pavement side and also on the pavement.

I don't see why you'd slop fuel in the road if you were filling a can next to the car, just a thought
