Use the current petrol cap, reroute the pipe to a bottle containing something sufficiently nasty - urine, bleach, some kind of sleep inducing drug, when they suck it out , they will get a mouth full of something unpleasant and wont do it again.
Attach the a cap so that it can be filled up from inside the boot. :)

Reroute the pipe? You mean the filler neck? Its a metal filler neck that is directly connected to the fuel tank. And I bet these sort of thieves use the syphoning kits from Halfords that don't require any sucking.

Though your thoughts are similar to mine. If you can leave your Mini for a week or so, put a non-lockable cap on your tank, then fill it with £10 of petrol and a bit sand, grit, or something similar that will fubar an engine when you try and run it. Bet they won't come back again! Of course this would then require you to remove the tank after they've stole the petrol and thoroughly empty it.

EDIT: Or fill your tank with diesel, will worry the drive when the car starts chugging and smoking heavily! :)

Until they realise who's screwed up their car by planting dodgy petrol for them... then im sure they would be back, probably with a vengance.

I do kinda want to keep my mini intact.. or at least most of it! :)

Chances are they are syphoning petrol all over the shop, like a bee gathering pollen.

How Crappy.

I know someone who to combat this problem put wiremesh in so they couldn't get any hoses in. Good idea however they simply bashed their way through that leaving the mesh at the bottom of the tank.

I suggested drilling through the filler pipe (when my brains functioning i think of something better to call it) and welding in some metal rods in a mesh fashion. Far enough down so that you can get the pump in, but not too far down that a hose could be placed into siphon the fuel out. Also making sure that the gaps in the mesh like structure are big enough to make fuel flow in easily and small enough to make sure a hose can't pass through.

There is probably easier ways but he really wanted to keep the cap, i'm not so fussed so i am moving the cap into the boot.

Personally i like the idea of electrocution :) !

I like that kind of idea.

On a lighter note, I've found petrol for 108.9p a litre :D I love it

By just putting a sign in the window to smile your on candid camera even if you don't have one might be enough to deter them.
