So...some of you may have seen my trouble with my piston sourcing and getting them machined, but I rang up MED today and after a lot of talking, we finally worked out we don't need to put a dish into the pistons, as I'm going to be using a 940, up to 30cc can be taken out of them, and keeping them on a standard engine I would need to take 31cc out of the head, however, with the pockets, thats a -1cc, and the head gasket is another -4cc, so only 26cc is needed to be taken out of the head biggrin.gif , if you get what I mean :P ?

Cheers for all you help everyone :) .

Just uploading my pictures now for todays small update  .

So yesterday I had a bit of time before I went over to James' to pick up my pistons, so I hid the reset switch for my alarm, and found a nice place to put the LED warning light:

As I'm not going to have a heater valve, there was no need for the push pull thing, but I kept the thing the wire ran through. So I cut it down, drilled it out to fit the LED, and 'brushed' up the aliminum with some wet and dry to give that nice shiny affect :) , I like it ;) .

And after speaking yesterday to James, we decided it was about time I cracked on with getting the engine ready to be taken out, so I began stripping it down, and here is how I left it today ;) :

Still a few things left to do, but it should be ready by the end of the weekend :) .

Also I'm off to MED tomorrow to drop off my pistons ;) , so there might not really be an update  .

I'm building a new engine anyway, so what happens to this one doesn't really matter, I just want to get it out without damaging the front end ;) .

I am going to be lifting it out, that is why I am stripping as much off it as I can, as I may not be able to get hold of an engine crane, so it will have to be man handled out :) .

If you want another pair of hands mate I'd be happy to help out :)

What condition is the bulkhead in near the clutch & brake cylinders? looks pretty nasty!

Thanks for that Luke. Ah that was where me and James spilt a lot, and I mean a lot, of brake fluid when we tried to get it ready for the MOT  .

So I went over to MED today to talk about my engine build. He took down what I wanted doing to the block:

  • +40thou bore
  • New cam bearings
  • Pockets
  • Reface

And he said that should be ready in 4 weeks, and thats fine, it gives me time to sort out the old engine, etc, and get stuff ready for the rebuild and finish off the interior  .

And when I got home the Fiat needed some work, as it was running on three cylinders :) , but in the end just turned out to be the spark plugs  . So will get cracking with some more work tomorrow :P .
