cheers for all your comments guys

it's home at the mo, ready and waiting for its trip to bristol tomorrow for bristol mini day!!

we went for a test drive today, its lovely to drive and sooooo quiet and quite nippy for a standard 998

i'm soooo chuffed with it, i've had the press photo of the sky in my room since i started it, and looked at it when i was off in the feezeing weather to weld up all the rust, and now thats what it looks like!!! well happy

if anyones considering a resto DO IT!!!!, such pride and achievement, well worth it in the end, you don't need to be a expert, minis are sOOOOOO simple, and welding is reasonably easy with the right equipment, and at the end of the day 18months ago i couldn't weld, had never taken a rear subframe off, let alone rebuild one, its amazing how much you learn, and project threads on here give you so much encouagement, when the chips are down and you find ANOTHER bit of upexpected rusts or dents its nice to know people are following the progess!!

thanks to everyone whos commented on here and encouraged me, and i'll post some decent pics up after the weekend!!

:)

I've been away for a little over a week and come back to a totally finished stunning little mini sky with an mot being driven about! Can't believe it! You're going to be at Bristol on Sunday too! I'm going too. Can't wait to see the sky in the metal hope you won't mind me taking lots of photos! I'll come and say hello.

I keep looking at the photos, it's actually a mini now and it all seems to have happened so quick. It looks brilliant!! Well done you, all that hard work and determination, welding in the mud and freezing cold outside was all worthwhile hey. What a lovely little mini you now have!

ok, so all finished well 99.9% finished, there are still a few bits and bobs to do!!!

went for a quick 15 mile ish test drive on friday night - brakes are still sticking a bit, but apart from that perfect, so saturday, quick polish in the morning, then we set off for bristol mini day (we camped the night before)

it drove up to bristol, perfectly(apart from the brakes) didn't miss a beat the whole way and pulled amazingly, we were crusing at about 65 quite happily - (but did go up to 75 to catch up etc), it was a bit hot inside but only because my mini has more ventaltion

so the show, i pulled into the show and shine to find someone else from my mini club in the same class(who went on to win the class and best in show), so anyway, polished the sky up again, its first PROPER clean!!

Thats awesome!

Loving the way you kept it standard. You just need to do a rose now to complete the set!

So makes me want to finish mine!

Good to meet you too and really great to meet the sky in the metal! Its just lovely. I'm so flippin jealous  lol

Took loads of photos of it later in the day so I'm happy for now! When I was taking photos there were quite a few people around it, especially looking at your pics in your boot from when you first got it, and they all couldn't believe the state it had started in. I think you had lots of interest in it all day really! From my vantage point opposite you =] there always seemed to be a few people wandering by and stopping to look. Can't say I blame them!

i wouldn't want it any other way expect from standard, its so worth it, all along i've been doubtful of the greyness, inside and out, but it suits the colours perfectly

it would be good to have a matching pair - but i'm not allowed anymore (to keep, there will be PLENTLY of projects tho)

and your so close with yours - it will be there soon!!!

Why! Why haven't I seen your project before! Well I just read through the whole thing over the past few hours and what can I say, It really is fantastic!
I love it >_<
I don't know how you managed to keep it standard, There are so few original minis about now. It seems like every "restoration" turns in to something bearing no resemblance of the original car, with varying degrees of taste. I just wouldn't be able to resist "just getting this bit" and "just putting this exhaust on". Most of the proper restos are on mk1/2 car as well, It really is great to see a later car in full glory, and it really is in it's full glory now. Looks spectacular.
The actual project was great to read too, you have some proper enthusiasm.

Well done, KUDOS!

I'm dying to get out and do mine now, I'm off collage ill and I have loads of assignments to do but..... nawww....
