Hehe! I did some work and got out there emalee! good progress made again, and be carefull with grinder and wire brushes, been there and done that as they say, had a grinding disc fall apart in the grinder once and a piece ended up in my knee! The joys of restoration is welding burns, wire brush brissels poking ya in your skin and welding flash once or twice, not to forget the crap in your nose and paint and rust in your hair, shoes etc"! Joys!

I think your doing a really good job, its hard work fighting the elements and being outside, free electric is cool tho! Keep up the good work and keep warm! Got rain tomorow they say >_<

its dry here at the moment, so i'll pop out for a bit, and replace in the inner finch,

every mini restoration has to have atleast one scar!!, i've got one on my knee from the grinder when making the trailer!!! and the only one from the sky so far is from rough metal when i was getting the subframe mounting brackets off the boot floor on my knuckle!!!, its all good tho

you joys of restoration are SOOOO true!!!!, i got weld burn a few months ago, was a bit odd going to work with a bright red face in the middle of winter, and even worse when it all peeled off >_<

my mini has decided its still in a sluck and the temperture guage has stopped working!!! GRRR, its a tim callipery one, so i'm trying to decide to get other one of these, go back to the original OR get a electronic one??? never finished with a mini!!! LOL

ok the sky, i faffed about most of the moring, making seat covers for someone!!, then went to the garage about 1ish, then spent 4 hours preping the body for the new inner finch and modify it to fit

NEVER BUY NON GENINUE PANELS they are seriously pants!!!, it worth the extra money not to faff about making the panel fit!!!!

so

Posted Image

took the air vent thing off (had to grind it off because the screws weren't budging

and the bottom air vent thing

Posted Image

along with a bit of the inner wing!!

then cut all the rusty inner finch out

Posted Image

this is the bit that took the time, geting all the spot weld off, they are really hard to spot!!!

then found some rust in the a post, where the bottom dash rail is welded on

Posted Image

and welded the resulting hole up

Posted Image

then clamped the new panel on

Posted Image

then finished preping the new panel

Posted Image

so thats already to weld in tomorrow, i'll put the door back on (again) and put the a panel in place just to make sure it all lines up, then weld it in

then take the driver wing off and go to a employmeny agency to get a job!!!, to get some money, so i can make a order with mini spares (again)

also i've started cleaning up the seats

drivers (covered in mud from when i was using the sky to feed my horse hay)

Posted Image

then a qucik rub down with a dry scrubbing brush

Posted Image

then this is the passenger, i got bored tho, so i'll clean it tomorrow!!

update?! how was today ?

give me chance LOL

it was alright, they made me do a excell test tho, and it was really bad because it didn't act like excel, you use the right button on the mouse and a random box would appear, and won't let you do you things, so i told them it was bad.... still got 80% on basic and 67% on intermediate tho!!! LOL

hopefully they will get me some temping work till i get a proper job, but at the moment, i'll love to had 2/3 weeks off to work on the sky, and to be honest with out this time, i'll really struggle to get him done for Riv run!!,

ok today i bolted the door on and clamped the inner finch repair on , and guess what,

it was miles out!!!

the panel stick out over the door, which would of meant that the a panel would stick out more that the door, so off with the door and panel to file out the holes AGAIN, and make it a little thinner, then repeat 3 times till perfect!!! GRRRRR non geninue panels!!!

again way, put the door on and placed the a panel in place

Posted Image

Posted Image

so with the panel in place i welded it in

Posted Image

and the inside

Posted Image

how much i had to move the holes

top
Posted Image

bottom

Posted Image

i;ve also cleaned up all the interior, the door cards have scrubbed up really well, so i'm dead chuffed with them, the seats are still a bit grubby tho, so i'll have to look into something to clean them

and i've also been cutting up some sky/rose covers for my custom front seats......

so tomorrow, is grind the welds inside down, then paint, repair the inner wing, get the front panel and passenger wing off, ready for the inner wing to be pulled out!!!!

after a nice lie in...

filled the top of the inner finch and cut the rust out of the top of the inner wing

Posted Image

and repaired

Posted Image

unbolted the shock mount and a chuck of metal fall off

Posted Image

not impressed, it looked fine, but i took the mount off because i know its a common problem area...

well i was right, so i attacked it with a wire brush, then cut around the main area of rust, and peeled the first skin back

Posted Image

ummmm, not good, so i made the hole in the first skin bigger so i could treat the rust underneather propery, then cut the rust in second skin out

Posted Image

cleaned up inside, and red oxided, then painted the inside of the first repair panel, welded in, painted that repair, then the inside of the second repair and welded in, (making sure the shock mount would go back on!!)

then cleaned up the top half of the inner wing, the wheel got in the way of the rest!!!

Posted Image

red oxided and started to drill out the spotweld of the passenger wing, then it got dark and my feet started to freeze!!! LOL
