good work i finally finished paintin the door i just need to fit it now is it easier to unbolt the door from inside the wheel arch ie inner wing and if so u know what size socket it is ???

depending on how rusted the bolts are, much easier via the inner wing, try them first, i think is 11mm, or 5/16 if thats right, the conversions confused me!!! LOL, if you can't get them off go for the door side, it is really tricky to get in there tho!!!

if you support the open the door and support it with a create etc its really easy to change the door

ok so to i've done quite a bit, went up the garage and took the front panel and passenger wing off

Posted Image

here is my lovely repaired inner wing

Posted Image

and no less than 13 spotwelds held the pigs ears for the front panel on the inner wing

http://i287.photobuc...ta/PHOT0152.jpg

is there really any need for that many!!,

so i whislt waiting for my dad to came and pull this out:

Posted Image

Posted Image

i started on the rear subframe again

Posted Image

and painted in red oxide

Posted Image

then my dad arrived and decided to work on my sisters vaxhuall tyra, it needs a new oxgen sensor in the exhuast or something, the engine management light has been on for 2 1/2 years............

so i took a break from welding today and stripped my radius arms etc

so manky arm

Posted Image

and manky pin - there's not much wear on it, just serious lack of grease!!!, i've got the rebuild kits, so i'll use everything apart from the bearings, as we don't have a reamer thing

Posted Image

heres the box of bits that came off
Posted Image

it looks like the bearing has never been off!!! (at this point dad started to get annoyed with the modern car, and came and had a break and took over stripping the arm!!!)

i stripped the arm right down and got the wire brush on the drill on it and it came up really nice

Posted Image

as did the back plate

Posted Image

i started stripping down the other side as well, and took the trunion pins off of the old rear subframe as the ones on this one don't look too pretty!!!

the plan tomorrow is to get the inner wing straightened, clean up the other radius arm and brackets etc, and red oxide, find some black paint for the rear sub and paint it

the inner finch in the passenger side doesn't look too bad, i don't think it will need replacing, so the welding work left to do is

4-5 bulkhead repairs

2-3 inner wing repairs

3 roof gutter repairs

then buy a spotwelder to spotweld on the scuttle and front end

i'm hoping to have all the welding completed by the 15th feb!!!

no pics today, because i left the camera at the garage!!!

its been far to cold to work outside today, so i took over the workshop and cleaned up loads of random bits ready for painting!!!!

i painted the subframe half in black hammerite :), and a few bits in red oxide

took apart the servo and cleaned up, and clutch master cyclinder wire brushed and painted ready for rebuilding

and brought a load of bits home to be sprayed black

then dad with a help of a tractor, massive water tank, a bracket he made in 1971, and a chain puller, pulled my inner wing out and beat it back to shape :( well happy,

the next few days when its really cold, i'll be doing about the same, and collecting parts, and supplies (spotwelder :dontgetit: ) ready for the scuttle to go on next weekend and front end the next!!!

this week i need to line up the passenger door, then take the a panel off and survey the damage underneath!!! doh!!, then take the scuttle off and repair the bulkhead, then repair the rest of the inner wings, there is quite a lot to do!!!, i hope it warms up abit, or the wind stops. but the wind has dried all the mud outsite up, so its a nice surface to work on again!!! whoop whoop

ok so today it was far to cold to go to the garage

so i painted up these bits

Posted Image

then reglued the backs of the doorcards, so they now look like this ready to go back on

Posted Image

Posted Image

then i finished cutting up the spare seat covers, and started making the bits for the new custom covers

here is the grey for the piping match against the original

Posted Image

and the grey for the back against the original

Posted Image

i'm also making new rear wheel arch covers as the old ones are abit manky and the grey is a near perfect match to them

it started to snow at 4.30, so i took my mini out to (feed my horse) take some pics

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

then came home and made a lovely warm fire!!!!

my grille is a bit of a random project, i usually have a stainless mesh then 4 cooper slats on, then a heater matrix attached to the inside for extra cooling, so for the winter the extra cooling has been disconnected and it takes up quite a bit of space so i brought a cheap old grille at castle combe and have been painting it different colours since!!!! its great fun!!!! far too much time!!!

i've got no pics today, as a was busy buying my spotwelder!!!!,

i;ve made the piping for the seats
and a set of rear seat covers for someone
then went to get spary paint, stonechip, wire brushes for the drill etc etc etc
then drove 30 odd miles to the nearest machine mart to get the spotwelder, hitting a few snow showers on the way down, and a bit of carb freeze when i came off the dual carriageway, then got lost.... then found the shop, then took me 10 mins to get to it because if stupid one way systems!!!!
then finished stripping down and cleaning up the other radius arm and back plate, and cleaned up the trumpets, handbrake arms for the backplates and the brackets to hold the handbrake cables on the radius arms
finished painting the subframe and red oxided some more stuff (must get some more hammerite!!!)
then came home and had to respary most of what i painted yesterday, because i missed loads :D

its all good, and its a bit warmer so i'll crack on with some welding tomorrow, mainly the bulkhead repairs and probably line the passenger door up
