I don't miss doing that job what so ever! such a messy oily thing to do. Giving it a good de-grease & lick of paint completely transforms the engine. Is it staying red?

Nope, decided I don't like having the block red as it shows oil way to easily (plus there are loads that have red blocks) but all im doing is swapping them around, black block and red head as it will be easier to maintain and it will last a bit longer before the block clearly needs a scrub :) Did ponder the traditional green for a while but don't think it will mix well with the rest of the mini to be honest.

I havent found the job that bad so far, rather enjoyable actually, but then again I like to have everything spotless when it comes to cars, would have drove me mad if I didnt have the tray it sits in though as it would have gone everywhere!

Oh no no I really enjoyed doing it, but I managed to get oil everywhere.

Why not do both the block & the head black?

Haha the aluminium tray it sits in ive had for agers, finally found a use for it, simple but effective.

I like the break in colours on an engine unless its green (no other goes well with it apart from the alloy). Going to have the head red, block black, gearbox, flywheel and clutch stays the way intended and im also going to get the timing cover powdercoated red just as a little touch to the engine bay.

Going to put together another box of bits together like you did Luke to get powdercoated, mix of red and black again.

Correct Midas Mk1!!!!

Did you check the directory or did you know anyway? Be honest haha.

Yeh thats what they and they are light, checked them against my GB's, mega difference. The width is narrower on the Magna's which makes me think there 5.5" and the guy selling them measured right the rim of the alloy but doesnt matter as they will still fill W+P arches nicely.

Next I need to get them sandblasted, rub down the rim a bit where there slightly kerbed and either spray them or just lacquer them? Any thoughts? Not sure if I can just lacquer Magnesium?

My pal bought some M Sport wheels for his 5 series BMW which had some kerbing. He built the marks up by TIG welding before sanding back to the correct profile (only minor marks). He than had them blasted & powder coated. They came up like new.

There's a pic on my project page. (The one where the 10" Revolution is in front).

Not sure if / how this would work with Magnesium wheels. Please get proper advice before attempting any work on them.

You can tig magnesium, but its a specialist job, you've got to change the gas and the filler rod, your better off paying someone to do it properly rather than see your new wheels go up in flames

Yeah ive never attempted welding so im definetely not going to start on magnesium haha. Who would be able to tig weld the wheels then, what type of specialist? Would the guys who are doing the bodywork on the shell be able to do it?

Although to be honest I think I may be able to get away with just finely sanding down the rim edge a bit on them, will have a look t them though.

Thanks for help.
