The wise choice has gone out the window!

I've decided to bite the bullet and send the mini off for prep of the body, front flip and full body respray! :P I'm *melonsing* buzzing! God knows what im going to be like when it actually goes in.

Ive just got off the phone with Finesse Auto Bodies and ive agreed to have it in on the first week of June, which gives me time to get the car rolling for their setup down at the bodyshop for ease. My mini will be in there for 2/3 months whilst they do all the work, in that time i will refurbish parts and organise the parts ive got etc.

Just got to get the mini rolling within 2 weeks and we'll be laughing :)

The only sad part is that the garage will empty for 3 months :)

:) :P

Plenty of time to get all the parts ready for when she comes back, why did you choose to have someone else do all the work for you?

Me and my dad arent bodywork inclined, I would have cut the front end off but thats about it. I may have risked it if I had power ect. in the garage but I dont. So if they do all the work nothing can come back to bite me in the bum as it were. I'd rather focus my mind on the mechanical side and have a go at electrics, which is what im better at and my dad knows what he is doing as well :P

I'd definetely be having a go if I had the setup you have got, but my garage is in the middle of a field lol Maybe next time, if I find or get a kitted out garage :)

The only thing I need to think about for them is how to fasten the front end down, Oz's looks smart, hopefully i'll go down to Moss next week to have a gander :)

Oo if you can get some photos I'd love to have a look, I think he mentioned using 'bear claws'? I might be wrong though.. I had a search on the internet but couldn't find anything.

analogue_radio: Oz sent the pictures of the bear claws on his mini, if you give me your email address i'll send them on to you.

Not really an update as such.

Decided to put back the spray now because of other things I forgot I need to pay for soon which is a bit of pain, plus it will allow me to sort out the rear subframe properly, powdercoat it etc.

I'm also in the process of buying 'Mini in a bucket' which is all new nuts, bolts, washers etc. required for a mini which will cover near enough everything from the attaching the subframe to the screws into the timing cover, just what I need since I wasnt the most organised when stripping the previous mini >_< Plus alot of the bolts ect were corroded so its the best option.

Also been buying a couple of things which I think were good value and I found a struggle to find.

Got a 10" Mountney steering wheel from icedaddyuk on here, looks awesome and in very good condition, cant wait to fit that :(

Also just bidded on a Mk2 indicator stalk which is original as it has the chrome the end on it and was £15 delivery in total, as opposed to £40 from minispares or minisport withour delivery. Been looking for one of those for a while as i'll be loosing the mk3 cowl as it will have centre ignition. Just need the Mk2 cowl now, if anyone has one laying around give me a shout

Cheers

Chris

Finally finished all my assignments for college so i'm free!!!!!!!! Just got to start doing more for looking for a job, although ive already sent out 85 CV's to companies so im running out of ideas. But other than that I will be able to spend more time on the mini which is good. Maybe able to get down tomorrow, but I maybe out. But I will down on Friday definetely so should have a bit of an update. Next week I hope to be down in the garage near enough all week which will be good. The weather here has gone downhill since I finished though :ermm:

Well this week didnt exactly go to plan as regards the time spent on the mini, which was next to none really due to going out with mates constantly.

Although I have managed to partially strip down one of the drive shafts, clean all the components up and replace the the inner gaiter. I have also stripped down the other one but I needed an outer gaiter (which I now have) as I managed to split whilst stripping down, so thats the first thing im going to do tomorrow.

One night I also decided I was going to keep track of the parts ive bought and their cost, so I setup a spreadsheet and I was amazed by how much ive spent :) ive also created a list (which I had anyway) of what I need to finish the project and estimated cost, it is realistic, so now I know where I stand

I have also just ordered something today which I'm quite excited about, think I'll wait till it arrives till I tell you all what it is along with pictures, should get it mid next week I think :)

Where did you get the 'Mini in a bucket' kit from??

I could do with a complete set of nuts bolts washers etc, saves me running back and forth to work and going through the Land Rover bits and pieces to find the right ones.

Right well today has been one them 1 step forward 2 steps back sorta days.

Well I started off with forgetting the camera again but i'll get some pics tomorrow, its fully charged and waiting by the front door :)

Task for today was finally get the drive shafts sorted, one has already been done earlier but we need to do the other, went swimmingly with changing both inner and outer gaiters, wack a fair amount of moly grease in and cable tie them tight job done :)

So I thought we had done them, but then we tried to put the hub nut on them both just so there together and we dont loose them, one goes on fine but the other doesnt :( Turns out the thread has expanded like someone had turned a hammer to it, but me and my dad didnt notice this when taking them off first time round, most likely because we were using a breaker bar and didnt feel resistance. Anyway my dad had a go filing the thread down a bit to see if it would give us some leanway but it didnt work. So now I need a new CV joint and outer gaiter :) but Moss arent open till Monday now so im going to have to wait.

Bit of a pain but if needs must. Tomorrow I may have a look at cleaning the engine and giving the rear subframe another sand down as it had got surface rust on it again. Plan after that is the possibly galvanize the rear subframe through a mate my neighbour knows.

Update

Well start off with a couple pics of the steering wheel and indicator stalk I mentioned earlier in the thread

Posted Image

Posted Image

I got the indicator with the chrome end off ebay, all the reproductions now just have a black plastic end, I got it for £15 posted which I thought was a bargin compared to £40 for a reproduction, looks like new old stock as well ;)

Got my CV Joint and outer gaiter from Moss today, had them in stock when I phoned up so they got put to the side for me. Can usually get a part for you in couple of days if needs be as well, very good company to use :dontgetit:

New CV Joint (packed with molygrease on top I put in)

Posted Image

Put that on, then forgot I didnt put the gaiter on before hand, tried to get the CV joint off and it wouldnt budge (obviously well made lol) after pouring with sweat for half hour in a boiling garage trying to get it off I decided to attack the other end where I had already put a new gaiter :) carefully removing the cable ties it came off much easier and I put the other gaiter on and put it all back together again. So after a fair few hick-ups with gaiters and CV Joints the drive shafts are done!!!!!!!! Glad thats all done, plan on painting the actual shafts red when I get round to painting items up, so they will look nice

Posted Image

Guess which one has the new CV Joint lol

Chris :)
