Small update, but a step forward all the same!

The shell is getting picked up this Sunday at 11am!!!!!!! Exciting times!!! So now I just need to get the bits that are body related out ready for him like the door hinges, brace bars, front end etc and its off! Then I will have an empty garage for a few months >_< which willl leave me plenty of room to sort the engine and refurb other parts, which desperately need it.

Also on Sunday I went to the VW North West show at Tatton Park, anyone else go? Really good show even though I only saw 2 mini's in the carpark, anyway I got a few tools and consumables that I will be needing to sort other things out on the mini including microfibre cloths, wire brushes etc. So they should help me keep going :X

Thanks for the comment MiniLandy O_O

Yeah it has sorta turned into a no expense spared project within reason, long before I started the thread the original plan was to just get the original mini road worthy, how things have changed :proud:

Ah ha ha, all projects start with the aim of getting it through an MOT, so it seems on here.
In reality, it ends up with a garage/living room/flat full of mini spares and a very empty bank account. :)
Glad to hear you got another job, i'm waiting for my local swimming pool to reopen, so i can start earning some dosh again...

Yeh id say say cash flow is pretty important when it comes to mini's, they just fool you into thinking there cheap with how cheap the parts are, you just need to keep replacing them repeatedly though haha

Was looking at your project thread the other day, very nice mini, could do with an update though

Update

I'll let the pics do most the talking...

Yep its gone off the spray shop!!!!!!!!!! ;) :D Happy Days

There was also a van that took a full load of parts with it for what I want doing.

Will see it back in the garage probably around 3 months being an absolute minter!

Spec so far is;

-Carbon Kevlar Frontend with American Front Flip Hinges

-Mk1 Fibreglass double skin boot

-Hole for Right-hand tank

-Rust Bullet applied to underneath

-White Stonechip to underneath

-Snowberry White to main body, internally and underneath

-VIP Paint to roof and arches

Also wants some welding done here and there to make it water tight including welding up the vent holes. Will most probably go down in a couple of weeks (if I can wait that long) to see how progress is getting on

Bought myself another tool this weekend aswell even though the shell has gone

Its just another toy to play with whilst the shell is gone :teehee:

Thanks for looking, comments welcome obviously.

Ofcourse you will be kept updated, will only be going down when I remeber my camera anyways :D

Plan for me know is to save the bit of money im missing for the spray, so won't be able to shed out on the engine just yet but other than that i will be cleaning up the engine and painting it. Will get the clutch off ready to replace and maybe seperate the gearbox to have a look-see and clean it out. I'll also be sorting out which bits of the suspension components and other bits will be going off to the powdercoaters and which I will simply be wire brushing down and painting myself. I will hopefully have some money before it comes back to buy some of items I need to finish the build but other than that i will be twiddling my thumbs till it gets back and then the rebuild begins :-

The main thing is once this is done its the biggest hurdle out the way to stop me rebuilding it

Hi mate,

Looks a good base, i had a curly "carbon" one piece front end and minitech hingers they are ok a bit of a pain to open and close, as for the "carbon" front end it was not carbon it was fiberglass with a little carbon sheet either side, not worth the extra money IMO

Yeh i read a few bad reviews on the quality for money issue but that was wayyyyy after I had bought mine unfortunetely (shows how long its been waiting to be put on haha) so was knaff all I could do really, as long as its a good fit im happy plus I got it for the same price as just a carbon one so not all bad ;D

Right well a bit of an update from the Finnesse but no pics as mum and dad have taken the camera on holiday for 2 weeks (although i know they will come back with knaff all on it!) plus I havent managed to get down there yet whilst there open.

From sounds of it they are welding at the moment, including;

-Welding up holes where the old arches used to be
-Welding up the holes in the rear bins
-Welding up the air vents
-Welding on the metal bar with threads in it where the bottom of the shock mounts attach as I stripped the old threads :P
-Redone the boot floor and associated brackets as whoever did them previously had put it in cockeyed as I couldnt align the rear submounts to the boot floor when getting it rolling
-Also welded up other odds and ends where it isnt water tight or finished well

Ive also asked them to cut out the parcel shelf as it looks awful with the speaker holes cut into it, whoever did it wants shooting, as I don't know why they didnt put them under the rear seat and also the quality of the cut is alot to be desired :) With the parcel shelf cut out I have asked for there to be a bit of lip left for me to put a carbonfibre one on that I have got my eyes on from carbonweezel :D

Sounds like quick progress though, hopefully I will get my hands on a camera son to take some pics though
