my mini no
hence rollin restoration
just need a new rad now, 2 tyres and 2 shocks and then the cars mechanically sound

still got lot and lots to do tho

tempted by silkolene 10w60 full synthetic oil i cant get away from the stuff :proud:

Synthetic oil is bad for minis, makes the seals leak. Put mineral oil in it.

Cars looking good, good progress, good luck with the rest of it.

people say synthetics leaks more but with the 4 cars ive had and run with it ive never had a problem granted zetecs and a tu but i found it makes the engine run alot happier

so the oil stayin mineral oil for the time being till i can affoard to whip the engine out and do the gaskets and fit the new cam :)

i today received my super cool 2 core i won on ebay for £44 posted and fitted it today and flushed the engine out :)

nice clean water now runs threw my radiator i also fixed the few bent fins with a tiny screw driver

so now i will be hopefully free of issues with the radiator till i fit the eletric fan and new pump and stat

Tomorow i should be pending my 12pm pay cheque be getting 2 new falken tyres FE19x or something similar for 74 ish pound from mini sport and if i get some good cash ill get my new kyb shocks too

so yeh should be a good day

Yes synthetic oil is good in modern engines but mineral oil is realy what's required in mini engines. They just realy don't like synthetic, the engines were designed to run on mineral and it's realy what they should be run on. Nearly all mini's leak oil and it's best to try and do anything to stop it, there an old saying, "if a mini isn't leaking oil it's got no oil in it" ha ha

Halfords 20w50 classic oil is the best, it has minimal detergants in it and a seal swell additive to stop leaks.

Anyway well done on the work done, I find falkens don't offer as much grip as yokohamas and there not alot more expensive. I ran falkens once, never again yokos all the way,

Still, good luck, carry on with it and get that top hose sorted before it overheats, then you'll have more to worry about than what oil to put in it

well good and bad day today firstly i decided to take the dizzy apart to see if i could cure the oil leak to find the shaft has worn to the point its letting oil pass up into the base of the dizzy and is dripping from there

I then rebuilt the dizzy and refitted it and reattached with the bracket on properly

then i went under the car to checke everything like I do everytime its on the ramp all the supension was fine the new cable looks awesome and I then checked the exhaust fine

Then as i was moving from under the car i spotted a hole out of the corner of my eye so i poked at with the screwdrive and the screw drive went threw all the way hahaha

so i got the angle grinder and ground the metal along the lip it was on to check and found 2 other holes

So i said as i sighed i got a piece of metal and did some shaping

I then got my friend kev to hold the peice in place so i could tac the piece in, then smoke started billowin out of the car i picked up my bottle of water and just poured it in the car as it was at full height over 6ft so i did this and we watched the water pour out onto the floor

so then we waited a lil while to let it dry and then kev held the other end for me to tack it in place as i was tacing away a spark hit his hair and he started jumpin up and down like a girl hahahhahaha

so he said right im off now lol so i carried on welding and blew and few holes haha

so hammered it closer and then went over the welds tacked it all up and after some work made it solid

may look rough but i didnt have the angle grinder to neaten it up

then stone chipped the new patch the bare metal and decided to clean the car

so I then drove home and made some nice mexican for tea yummy

From what i remember, he took the lip off the bonnet because it was rusty, removed a bent/ broken slat, and took the rest of the surround off because it looked better.

(He tells me everything :D )
