i have rac also but the fact i had no credit sort of prevented that option and at the time i thought it was nothing

Are you gonna replace both your discs or what, or just wait for another stupid breakdown to do it.
MAKE SURE YOU USE LOCKTIGHT ON THE CALIPER BOLTS.

You don't have to use locktite on the calliper bolts, they were never originally designed with loctite!

The best bet is to make sure the threads on both the bolts and the hub are in perfect condition. And use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts. NOTHING ELSE. A breaker bar is for undoing nuts and bolts, only a torque wrench will tell you how tight you are tightening a nut or a bolt. Do not over-tighten, do not under-tighten.

I love how the version of events / description of fault has changed in the more recent posts compared to the original story.

It's not his fault though, he "Thought it was nothing", struggling to stop, and then struggling to set off again, all along with a ominous grinding noise coming from one wheel, let alone how the steering and brake pedal felt.

Probably nothing indeed.

please stop now, youve already admitted to driving at 50 mph, with good brakes it takes a while stop from 50, now Im no angel I dont drive like an undertaker, but admitted not trying to use the brakes, have you got special powers you know whats going to happen ahead of time..why not just say yes I was a tit and stop making excuses..

Having read all 15 or so pages here's my tuppence...

Firstly, you still haven't answered what the stopping distance is at 50mph with no brakes?

right i was visting leeds i dont live there so i had to drive the car back

You never HAVE to drive a car. If the car is unsafe to drive, DO NOT DRIVE IT.

if u were stuck 1 hour away from home and had no other alternative what would u do

I'd pull over. Ring the recovery people. Making excuses for it is a dangerous road to go down. "I 'NEEDED' to go to Asda to get some milk when...."

no credit and i dont have a jack or any tools in my car so this is what forced the desion

You were in Leeds, right? Otley road? Is there not HOUSES on Otley road?? Could you not go knocking on someones door and explain to them that your brakes have failed, you have no credit, and you'd like to please use their phone to call for assistance?! You did take some money right? Or didn't you bother with that either?

car didnt properly brake untill i passed the subaru garage on otley road and drove to cardigan road so not miles

I've had a look on Google Maps, do you mean the garage in Pool in Wharfedale? Cardigan Road is in Headingley. Which is MILES away driving in a BUILT UP RESIDENTIAL AREA, not mentioning that it's the main bloody student area in Leeds so will have been busy at any time of the day!!

hope other people learn from it

If there's anyone else on the forum who would seriously do what you've done then I do worry.

and as far as shifty his main problem with me is the fact im at least a foot taller than him and he seems to think if u dont worship the ground we walks on that you arent worthy

What's this gotta do with anything? He might be a foot shorter than you but having met him and not (yet) met you but seen what you have to say at times he seems more of a man than you are. Oh and at least he doesn't ignorantly drive around in a deathtrap.

i have rac also but the fact i had no credit sort of prevented that option and at the time i thought it was nothing

As I said above, you should have PULLED OVER, and asked a member of the public for help. Perhaps we aren't the sort of society to help a man in distress anymore but if you don't ask, you don't get. And you clearly didn't make any effort in this case.

You may dismiss it as "I thought it would be okay" it is negligent behaviour.

Seriously, how often do you check your car over? How often do you check the operation of the brakes, lights, windscreen wash, tyre tread/pressure etc?

Because although this may have been a freak occurence and there might be nothing you could've done to prevent it, I'd hazard a guess and say you generally don't care about the safety of the car you're driving and therefore by default don't care for the safety of other road users at all.

It's people like you who bring scattered limbs, bones, corpses, and flowers to the side of the road.

I hope I'm parked at the other side of the car park if you decide to come to one of the LCMOC meets because I don't want you driving anywhere near me.

Ok jammy i stand corrected and accepted, but this was the way i was learnt and i always use the stuff.
