love this topic and i under stand completly where you coming from mate my girl friends has had this talk with me and i managed to get out of it with sex lol!
but it always comes up if the mini isnt running right or needs some work but oh well your mini is for as long as you want her and she will never answer back

Why does it always have to be a gender thing? Some people just don't understand a passion for cars, be them male or female. My ex used to hate my mini and the amount of time and money I spent on it, and always tried to make me feel guilty for it (he was a guy )

If your partner can't be tolerant of your interests, that's not a gender thing, its a compatibility thing surely?

i must be the lucky one, it was my fiancees idea to get my mini back on the road! she even wants it as our wedding car!!

well i was talking to my Girl friend on the phone and we were talking away about random stuff and then the subject turned to what else i needed to buy to get vini back on the road and she the went off on one about how what a waste of money "it" is and how i should by a corsa or something sensible and how it isnt safe etc etc so i did what any normal mini lover would do i deffended vini and she then said how her family say i should buy a new car and her friends say that as well etc etc etc

and then the big one landed that i thought i would never hear

and then the water works started (her end not mine) so i had to explain that it was a different kind of love and that it would be weird and wrong if i loved vini in the same way as i love her and she calmed down and appologised (yes a woman appologised)

but what is going on in the world that women can get jelous of a car i mean i love vini but nothing could ever come between me and my girlfriend.

why dont women get that????

I feel for you Yeti, i've come close to this situation with my girlfriend on many occasions. Except my girlfriend loves Minis (mostly because of Rowan Atkinson, as her favourite character Mr.Bean, drove one). Her family think mine is great. But sometimes when she asks if she wants to meet me on a saturday afternoon i sometimes have to say

"okay, but i'll need to get a few things i planned for the car done first, sorry if i'm a bit late." She'll then go on about how everything i do is a waste of money on it and i should just leave it standard. And i do detect jealousy from her, like the car has more of my attention than she does . Which to be fair does sometimes happens, i'm protective of both my girlfriend and my car . Even my mum refers to my Mini as "the love of his life"

I'm pretty sure my old boyfriend thought that I loved the mini more than him sometimes! I'm pretty sure he got sick of hearing me talk about it too!

But then he went to a couple of shows and I actually heard him say he wouldn't mind one himself!

In fact the main thing I miss from home now that I am away is probably my mini. I miss my family and friends and all that, but I can chat to them on skype and facebook.....can't drive the mini via skype unfortunately

ahh but you could be in the car whilst he is driving via skype
if you've got a wireless dongle thing back home ask your parents to go on skype and take the laptop into the car and take the car for a drive haha

My wife loves my mini. So she's having the blue one when the red one is all fixed up for me.
And my kids love the minis too.

Im lucky as well, i have found a lot of rust all over the floor of my mini and told my girlfriend and a few days later i had a full floor including heel-board, inner and outer sills and cross-member on the doorstep that she had ordered me from minispares!

She loves them but i must admit she does get a little annoyed when i spend all weekend doing the mini and spending no time with her!
