not on the road no, grasstracking it or a raching shell yes
well that is just silly.
Not appreciating that at all.
grrr.
I think that they should do something about that.
How is it silly?
It's just like any other car that has/will ver have a scrap marker put on it, just because it's a mini doesn't mean it should be the exception to the rule. Sorry to soun blunt, but it's the waythe system is and there's nothing you can do about it.

Currently i am looking for a cheap mini to use as a run around and take my time to get it looking nice etc. That one on ebay would have been perfect.
To be fair its fair game - the rules have been made and need to be played to.
But the thing that i think is horrendous about the scrappage scheme is that it doesn't seem to do anything for the poor little man like me.
Think about it... I have never paid more than £2000 for a car, and right now i cant afford to pay more than £900. 8months ago i brought my mondeo for £600 from someone who was buying a BRAND NEW mondeo. If the scrappage scheme was around back then, the bloke would have scrapped the mondeo that is now mine. That decreases supply of older cheaper cars. The way supply and demand works is that if supply goes down and demand stays the same/increases, then the price will rise. Which would mean that I wouldn't be able to afford my mondeo.
Yes I could scrap my mondeo and get £2000 of a NEW car, but i can't afford the £10,000 balance of the new car!!
So in short, scrappage is bad for the poor people of the world like me. In fact lets face it, unless your getting a crappy FIAT panda or such like, the £2000 isnt really gonna make that much difference to most people? it just goes some way to balance out the money you loose as soon as you drive your brand spanking new car of the four court.
Any comments gratefully received

i don't think you would be able to as the vin would have been registered as scrap
you have a fair point.
I know you used to be able to but i spose if its scrapped by the goverment.
I heard they want to change it so you have to scrap any car over 10 years
RIOT or what?

If scrappage cars can jail break like this what are the consequences if they are exported?

Mine is the 2l as well, goes quite well, but not as well as the new turbo diesels.

If they REALLY are thinking about scrapping all cars over 10years old, then i assume they WILL give me the £19k odd for the purchase of the equivalent brand new car? (ie new mondeo)

Is there anyway LEGALLY that the shell could be used? Could it be re-used on a Q-Plate? If it was, would the vin have to be ground off?
this is what i thought, get rid of any identification numbers, or even swap the plates from am engine that doesnt work
then q plate it
easay peasy

You are so so wrong, sorry.
Right forgetting the classic now....
It's not affecting second hand prices, second hand prices are dropping like fly's at the moment.
And the scrappage scheme has not changed anything, people just don't understand it. If I walk into any car showroom today I'll be able to get 2grand off the list price 90% of cars, simply by bargaining. No part-ex/scrappage scheme etc needed. I can then on top of that sell my banger that's worth £300 for £300, resulting in an additional saving of £300, or a total saving of £2300!!!
The reason the government introduced the scheme was not to encourage people to buy new cars. Any 10 year old car worth less than 2k is incredibly un-safe, and pollutes the environment, compared to a new car. So basically it is there way of getting un-safe, un-environmentally friendly cars off the road.
And that, no matter how much you attempt to argue, is a good thing!!!

The only thing the scrappage scheme is doing is making guilable people think that they're somehow beating the system by 'saving £2000' and driving away in a shiny new car that they will no doubt lose £2000 in depreciation the minute the sign for it and drive off the forecourt anyway.
The old saying "you get nothing for free" couldn't be any more true in this instance. Sure it's taking 300,000 older cars off the road, but most of them will be mundane Corsa's, Fiestas etc etc.
