Decided to go with Slate grey (non metallic) as the colour, which I can get in Rustoleum (RAL 7015), with black roof & arches. I was also thinking of adding a splash of colour somehow with a brightish shade of blue but that's just a thought at the moment. Maybe pinstriping like BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics car.

What do you think?Posted Image

I quite like this colour.

My god has it been that long since I posted anything on Fern?!! After what seems like ages I managed to get a few hours in the garage today. The house decorating, work, life etc have been the priority lately.
I finished welding in the small piece on the inside of the inner sill & then ground everything flat ready for some paint. Then got a bit disheartened when I looked around the shell, saw how much needs doing & had the realisation of how big this task of restoring a car actually is :-( I decided to remove the waxoyl & old seam sealer from under the floor pan & got 2/3 done. I guess over the next few days I'll be ploding along with some smaller bits then it's L2B on Sunday. I will be enlisting the help of one of our club members (professional welder & car restorer by trade) to give me advice on which bits to tackle next & try to get some enthusiasm back into the project. There's just never enough hours in the day!

It's very hard when you can't see an end to it all!

I'll maybe see you at L2B on Sunday, I'm looking forward to see what people have done and I'm hoping it'll give me some inspiration

We'll be going straight down to Brighton on Sunday this year as the last 2 years we've not got down there til after 1pm & we'd like to see what happens down there in the morning. It'll be good to see all the cars arrive too. I agree with you about the inspiration, but its enthusiasm I need at the moment! ;-)

I've just had yet another garage clear out!

Unfortunately lack of funds is a bit of an issue at the moment along with lack of enthusiasm!

Just think about your money in that lovely colour

Managed to get a little more done on the boot lid.

I welded up the mounting pod thingy for the light to recess into then figured out where I wanted it to sit & cut out the hole with my trusty Dremel & very fine cutting discs. Because of the angle I wanted the pod to sit at I had to spend about half an hour reshaping the hole with a grinding disc on the Dremel to get it right. Once I had the angle it was tacked in place, rechecked on the body for the angle & welded in. I've now mostly welded it in after having to remove the first tacks due to a bit of warping, then cut off the excess, so all that's left to do it finish welding, grind it all flat, sand all the filler & then I can paint it all. I'll be working on the shell tomorrow so hope I can have a good day on that.

The boot lids now ground back & filled & just needs sanding smooth. I removed the passenger side outer sill & did a bit more rust removal as well as flatting back the lip on the door step ready for the new sill. My drill decided to pack up on me so I've ordered some new carbon brushes to get it going agiain & I think the grinder is going the same way so will keep an eye on it. I finished the patch on the drivers inner sill. The inner sill on the passenger side is worse than the drivers side, they actually took the time to remove the ridges from the original sill?!?! So I will probably have to replace the whole thing like the other side.

Got the Drivers side heal board section that was rusty cut off, the strengthening bracket isn't that bad (surface rust) so I've left it on for now. The repair section I've got I can remove the nuts if I need to. Also Kurusted the whole area.
I'm working on the boot today trying to get it smooth, lots of little dips & ridges in the filler :-(

I'm about 90% there just a few little bits to smooth out & then I can paint it. :-)

Bought some new panels the other day. All genuine panels from Mini Spares (love the 7.5% discount) but still cam in at £300! I got
- Rear Valance
- Lower boot repair, below lights
- Rear valance closing panel & subframe mount (both sides)
- Outer sill (both)

I'm also getting a genuine heal board from a member of our club which he didn't use. Now I've got all those panels I'm going to get my friend to do all the welding of the boot & arches area to get it done quicker & I then only have to fit the wings & A-panels. I'll probably do the sills myself as well, so hopefully I'll have a few more progress pics soon!

Got the floor Kurust'd & then put a coat of Rustoleum Combicolor over the under floor. It's not the final colour but the same type of paint so it won't react & it will protect it until I get the proper colour. Pics to follow soon.

RAL 7015. Thats the colour we are going for, Slate Grey. I got a can of it made up at a local body shop & it looks pretty good to me & more importantly, the wife ;-)
I made a start at the little rust hole in the corner by the steering column blots. I got it cut out pretty easily with my dremel & being made up of 3 different pieces shouldn't be that hard to rebuild once I sus out which sequence to put the pieces back in! Slowly it goes at the moment as I'm trying to get some more work on the house done.
