Hi Brad, ive only just started to read this thread and have done so from start to finnish, so i can see whats been going on. Now please dont take ofence and for those who have already posted please dont jump on me straight away!!!!!. If that shell had been delivered to my garage i would have just sent it down the scrap yard for crushing. BUT im glad you are doing what you are. It takes a brave person with skill to attempt a rebuild of that stature but all fairness to you and your dad for making the desission to have a go. I know its been said that a few mistakes have been made on the way and no doubt a few more will be made before the end.

Now please dont take that all the wrong way as thats not how its meant to be, if anything i admire you for having a go. I can remember the first car i tryed to bring back An Audi 80 estate in pale blue (yeah i know why bother) but it was my first car after all and it meant the world to me. I had loads of critasism as well and loads of advice, some was taken to heart and some was put to good use. It looks like you also have had the same, but no matter what the end outcome is FAIR PLAY to you for doing it. I will now start to watch this thread as it unfolds and await to see what the final car turns out to be like. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming. Your doing ok as you are i just hope the car does turn out straigh at the end and well done you for not giving up when it all got tough and nasty.

ive just read the thread all the way through and i admire you for bringin the mini back, im only 16 just a bit older than ya and i know that if i was you i woulda attempted to bring it back aswell and the way i like to think about my project is that since ur doin it you know that itl be done to your standard and you wont do bodge jobs lol, my projects not as bad but i wuda advised doin a car restoration course at ur local tech like what im doin cus they cver everythin to do with cars and ul meet people thatl help u through your restoration and it also creates a flexible timetable almost wich i need cus my dads not too helpful atm lol. look into your local part dealers aswell cus they will usually have resonably cheap parts and if they dont have them they will prob know people that might have them, and always keep your garage open wen your workin cus ive found that quite a few of my neighbours have worked on minis and they have helpful input, even the postman was able to help lol. and join ur local club and a couple of big ones aswell as these will also help with parts and advice etc.
and the way i learnt hw to get a good weld was off "A car is reborn" where the presenter ark evens said to remember it as "if youve not got penetration u aint doin it ryt" and you cant say ur gonna forget that lol

enough rantin lol i hope you manage to get the mini on the road as you would be a complete LEGEND! if you managed it and you can always think to yourself "i achieved what many people thought was near imposible and unrestorable" and as for rust protecting you dont want to go to all that work and then it rustin a couple of years later s look into www.frost.co.uk and then POR15 paint as it is brilliant but costly, ive bought some and my neighbour put it n is mg nd its been 6years sincde his restoration and its not rusted at all were hes put it on lol

still good luck with this project and watch "a car is reborn" if you can find it on the internet cus its a great help:D

plz update when possible as im watchin this thread nw as its a great project :) and im probably goin to get told off for usin text language again lol
