ive just read the thread all the way through and i admire you for bringin the mini back, im only 16 just a bit older than ya and i know that if i was you i woulda attempted to bring it back aswell and the way i like to think about my project is that since ur doin it you know that itl be done to your standard and you wont do bodge jobs lol, my projects not as bad but i wuda advised doin a car restoration course at ur local tech like what im doin cus they cver everythin to do with cars and ul meet people thatl help u through your restoration and it also creates a flexible timetable almost wich i need cus my dads not too helpful atm lol. look into your local part dealers aswell cus they will usually have resonably cheap parts and if they dont have them they will prob know people that might have them, and always keep your garage open wen your workin cus ive found that quite a few of my neighbours have worked on minis and they have helpful input, even the postman was able to help lol. and join ur local club and a couple of big ones aswell as these will also help with parts and advice etc.
and the way i learnt hw to get a good weld was off "A car is reborn" where the presenter ark evens said to remember it as "if youve not got penetration u aint doin it ryt" and you cant say ur gonna forget that lol

enough rantin lol i hope you manage to get the mini on the road as you would be a complete LEGEND! if you managed it and you can always think to yourself "i achieved what many people thought was near imposible and unrestorable" and as for rust protecting you dont want to go to all that work and then it rustin a couple of years later s look into www.frost.co.uk and then POR15 paint as it is brilliant but costly, ive bought some and my neighbour put it n is mg nd its been 6years sincde his restoration and its not rusted at all were hes put it on lol

still good luck with this project and watch "a car is reborn" if you can find it on the internet cus its a great help:D

plz update when possible as im watchin this thread nw as its a great project :) and im probably goin to get told off for usin text language again lol

Yup, next post I see thats filled with lazy text talk will just get deleted on sight, no warnings and no Pm's

I'd be happy with a little bit of grammer and an attempt to use correct English.

I'm not joking either, any lazy posts will just be deleted. There's way too much text talk going on lately, I asked him nicely the first time, next time its the big red "DELETE" button.

good luck with the project nice to see another teenager attempting a restoration!
I can see from some of the welding before that the welds had not penetrated, I know this because it looked exactly what my first attempts did but as i sometimes have to use a mig for work i knew it wasnt right.
What people should be doing is giving you hints to help you instead of pointing out the obvious.
Anyway the reson i found for the welds not penetrating/ bad quality was the fact i was using a gasless mig. Eventually I used me head and got a proper half size argon mix gas bottle and regulater linked up to the plant. After a bit of fiddling you can set it up to have plenty penetration and smooth non porus welds.

hope this helps! and keep the updates coming

Absolutely shocked and amazed... almost speechless.

As with many others I would have sent it straight to the scrappy... but thinking about it, that would not be the best thing to do. Do a little work, try it out... see how you get on.

I hope this ends up back on the road with a proper MOT and these people will deserve medals and awards.

And from then on in, your pretty much set. You won't stumble across many cars that you would not be able to do.

It worried me to begin with, but lets just see >_<

Wow mate, very good progress. I can't wait to see this little car finished ^_^
I check this thread quite often! Hopefully you will be driving round in it soon. Then you can look back at that very first picture, the day you had it and see how far it's come.

Well done mate, I admire you for doing this. I don't like seeing Mini's go to the scrap yard, but I have to admit that if I had this car it would have ended up being scraped as I wouldn't know where to start.

Keep up the good work & post more pictures as soon as you get more work done!
