Looking good Luke. Soon be be quick progress from sounds of it

Have you sorted your brakes from Minispeed yet?

Cheers mate! I had my money refunded, but instead of buying the correct brakes I bought other things instead like the panels :D

Clutch in between bit cleaned up and new oil seal in situ.

Posted Image

Bearings, gears, seals etc.. all in place.

Posted Image

Timing chain cover on and bolted.

Posted Image

Clutch in between bit bolted on, oil seal in situ. Ran out of bolts though so I need to get those on order :D

Posted Image

More things in place and bolted on.

Posted Image

Sorting out the electrics, will renew the alternator. Unsure about the starter motor, dizzy & coil, will just clean them all up.

So yeah, another good day :-

Happy easter all :) had a quick hour on the mini today, left in a pretty annoyed state due to paint.. :D

Posted Image

Cleaned the dizzy & cap up.

Posted Image

Placed it in the block, didn't like the look of the dirty metal vacuum so I decided to colour code it.

Posted Image

Primered.

Posted Image

Painted and in, sorry I didn't take a close up. I used brush on paint and it looks shoddy :D

Posted Image

Had the choice of two brackets for the coil, the stainless steel is too 'blingy' for my tastes so I decided to colour code the old black bracket.

Posted Image

Taken apart, wire brushed down, ku-rusted & primered.

& yeah no more photos.. I painted these with the tin of BMC green I used for the engine and they turned out horribly! In the end I got fed up and I will buy a spray can of BMC aerosol, redo the brackets and dizzy vacuum & also a few other bits.

Also need to order some bolts and bits to get the radiator on and clutch wok on.

Should have the engine done soon

Maybe I'm being picky about the paint finish, but it would annoy me to have brush strokes on something that could be done in a really nice smooth finish.

Ahh Luke.

I have to say I too fall foul of the endless search for perfection! Hence my recent heel board issues!

Looking good though sir .

£140 spent at Moss and Mini Spares :)

Should run out of money just in time to start my summer job, whatever that may be :(

But that order should pretty much tick the engine off the list, bar from exhaust, manifold & carb.. that's all to be decided yet.

Order from Moss turned up, the gasket & sump plug were ebay bargains.

All off the bits in the plastic bags & the aerosol can cost £67 (incl. delivery, which was £9.50) what a bloody *yellow human water* take. Moss is such a guilty pleasure for me, I love how easy it is to order those fiddly bits and bobs you can't identify with the exploded diagrams, but the charges are ridiculous! ;)

Afraid I'm stuck inside doing my Uni work today, but I will hopefully sneak out tonight and spent my evening in the garage :D take a cider out and stick some Beatles on.

They've sent me the wrong paint & 4 of the bits I've ordered are out of stock ;)

1) They don't tell you things are out of stock until you've paid for everything and you've got the parcel at your door with the invoice.

2) They don't tell you what is missing and wasn't in stock.. you need to work it out for yourself.

:D

I think I'm spending far too much money. What I paid for the above is just ridiculous, I made the fatal mistake of not labelling nuts/bolts when I took the thing apart.. biggest regret!

Rear subframe is 95% done.
Front subframe is still at 0%, that's next.
Engine isn't far off, I'd say 75%.
Bodywork is 0% also.

As for the interior.. it only needs to be MOT worthy, so dashboard, seats & seatbelts.

I was on the phone to Mini Sport yesterday.. he said some of the parts that are out of stock are being manufactured at the minute, but they've been waiting a month and a half already for others.. I asked for an approximate time, but he had no idea.

Starting to get fed up.. but I think that's down to lack of money and lately being frustrated by out of stock parts! Also stress from University doesn't help at all.

I think maybe I'll be taking a break from being in the garage for a month, until I've finished my first year at Uni. By this time I'll hopefully have the panels through, I would've finished my first year, I'll have a full time job so I'll be earning money.. and I can make one serious huge push over Summer.

We'll see ;)

Moss are expensive for bits, Somerford have the blown up diagrams as well and should be a little cheaper?

I made the same mistake of not labelling EVERY nut and bolt I took off as well, I've just grouped them into bags and now there's a few I'm unsure about. Doesn't make life easier ;)

Looks to be coming along nicely :D

Looking good, you would be better going to a local fastener place for nuts and bolts, they are miles cheaper (better quality aswell IMO). Ive walked out with loads of fasteners and its only come to something like £12, can save you a lot of money in the long run, but there are bolts where only places like moss can supply them.

I know mate, I did have a roses tin full of new bolts from Mini spares.. but it's gone walkabouts.. searched the garage three times and I can't find it :-

The bolts for the engine will be 20 years old, so I wanted to replace them. But yeah I could do it so much cheaper, being a full restoration and my first. I'm happier in the knowledge that 'the slipper fits' and things should go where they go.

These bolts, nuts, fasteners etc.. are a one off thing, and will last the duration.

YESSS!

It's from an old moggy minor, he bought it with the intention of modifying it to fit his camper van but made one from scratch instead. So yeah, i'm really excited. I'll post pictures up tomorrow after I pick it up, gonna get Mum to keep an eye out for some wicker baskets and old tool tins at Antiques fairs.

It will really finish my mini off in terms of the retro/period styling

Just had a thought.. Grandad had some old motorbike headlamps in his garage, pretty sure one of them had a bracket.. could adapt that to fit onto the roofrack and run the wire into the cab, would be pretty cool :D
