Or more than likely just needs a quick once over with some fine we'n'dry rapped round a sanding block and some wd40.

By all means get it check to see if the head face is flat, but if it doesn’t need doing, I wouldn’t bother.

Good point only time ive seen cast iron heads need skiming is when they have been realy cooked. Alloy heads on other hand are always warping

Had a quick hour after I got back from work tonight,

I got out a flat sided metal set square to check the head, and it's perfectly flat! so that's good, i'll just give it a clean up with some wet and dry.

Posted Image

Noticed it has got double valve springs though.. I can only assume they are a bonus.. or are they fitted as standard to 12g295 heads?

Posted Image

& I cleaned up the metal left behind from the bins, need to make a few patches to cover up some holes etc..

Hopefully my spot weld drill bit will turn up tomorrow, and if I'm not working later than usual I'll get in the garage again.

Tad bit more done today after work, the new drill bit came.. and wow! It actually does something unlike the last :D made things 100x easier.

Took the remains of the other companion bin out.

& took that whole strip off to reveal a nice tidy lip.

Did a bit today, obviously had to finish early to watch the football  turns out I could have just carried on in the garage, but oh well :(

Removing the floor is almost there, bar from a few tricky bits..

Posted Image

Posted Image

Not 100% sure what to do with these bits.. do I leave them in and cut around them?

And then Mum and I took a trip to the tip with all my old panels  had my old exhaust and bonnet in there too, felt pretty sad leaving them behind at the tip! :D

Wow, you've done a hell of a lot since i've last looked. Nice one :D Looks like it's coming on well

Yep, double valve springs are standard on the 295 head. What cam are you thinking in using in your turbo engine?

Keep up the work

Nice work Luke!

Glad you're having better luck with that new spot weld bit, they really are very useful once you get the type that work .

The bits you are not sure what to do with are the bump stops and the rear seat belt mount which are welded together. I took the one off on Project Erm and replaced the rusty bump stops. It all had to come off anyway as the bulkhead in that area was rotten and had to be re fabricated.

If its not rusty then leave them on and weld to the new arch.

Thanks a lot guys ;)

The problem I'm having is removing seam welds.. I'll do a search and see if it brings anything up.

Careful? hasn't really come into my vocabulary lately  I guess I'll have to try and be gentle.

You can see in this photo where someone has welded in a patch towards the back of the rear seat, where the lip is. Which makes it hard for me  I'll need some careful cutting to try and salvage a level lip the whole way along. Just ordered a pack of ten 1mm cutting discs, should help me be more precise.

yep, the 1mm discs are a must, makes life so much easier but they do wear out quick!

Ah no sorry! I don't have them yet  I got sent that photo from the bloke who is making me a set  just turns out that's a T2 and a BMC green engine, haha.

But yeah, I've been talking to him about them and I will be soon! Said he was going to make a batch up at the end of this month.

& yep, I will be running an intercooler, need to source one of those as well.
