I'm not chopping out the whole heel board :) just the end of the corners in order to get the sills off.

I've left the hinge panel in for the boot, to make sure things stay rigid.

your work looks good so far Luke, keep it up!

Are those manifolds your own Luke? If so would there be any chance of having a look at them please, just thinking that they may be the best option for me too?

Another good night after work done,

Posted Image

A section of the outersill removed so I can see the underneath. It looks good! Does need a few patches here and there, but I was surprised to see the majority to be solid.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Is this needed? I think it is just a support piece for the jacking point.. which I've removed, and won't be replacing. I don't use it, and it's only a rust spot.

Posted Image

Where the jacking point was.. again, few tears from the spotwelds, but no real rust. I will just cut out a big square shape and weld a new one in.

Posted Image

I then spun the car round so the otherside was high, and rinsed and repeated what I did on the drivers side. This side is in a bit more of a sorry state, as you can see from the seatbelt mounting point, but again.. nothing serious.

Posted Image

Posted Image

A previous owner has patched this corner before, I decided to cut the whole lot out to be sure and I'll do it myself.

And then yesterday I put a wanted thread on Turbo Minis, and today, this turns up  Hand delivered to my door as well!

It's a Gen Challenge carb, bit more fancier than the standard turbo carbs. Very clean and tidy!

Almost there with the main turbo bits.. getting there!

Hey James, been a while mate! I got them straight from Mirage Motorsport, but yeah you are welcome to have a look if you need too.

Haha! yeah sure mate, I'm working on Saturday from 6am till god knows when. Probably best to pop over Sunday if you are free, or if not Saturday evening will be just as good.

I'll drop you my number on facebook if you haven't got it.

Those brackets you've found at the end of the inner sill, no you don't need them, they were used on the production line :w00t:. You'll find another 2 at the front too.

Also, looking at some of those areas you want to get yourself one of these bad boys:

I've got the wheel type. Basically when you come to some metal that looks questionable, get that on it and it'll tell you if you need to do any welding or not because it'll destroy any rust in sight! Don't press too hard though .

Started today with a well needed tidy!

Posted Image

All my turbo bits, minus the bulkhead box.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Tidy tidy! workbench didn't stay tidy for long :P

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Gave the new head a lick of paint, and transferred the bits across.

Posted Image

Studs out of the old and into the new one.

Posted Image

Then Dad and I lifted the engine up onto the table, but then I realised I didn't have a head gasket, only a cheapo one.. so I'll invest in a good one before putting the head back on.

Posted Image

Took the exhaust studs out of the old head and put them into the new.

Posted Image

Done!

Posted Image

Trying my mirage manifold on for size.

Posted Image

Can't get these nuts on because they foul, I don't want to file into the weld obviously.. so I'll cut a few rings of the thread to give me just enough to get the nut on.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Horn push too :ermm:

So then I remembered that I wanted to use Dads old steering wheel from his rally days, he said he used this one in a MK1 cortina! I tried to see if it would fit just after I'd gotten my mini, but the spline was different.. I didn't realise at the time I could swap the bosses over!

Posted Image

So I did just that! :)

Can't you just pull the manifold half off the stud and put the nut on with the manifold not seated and move it in as the nut goes down the stud? Just saves you cutting the threads that's all.

Nice work as usual Luke, didn't think you needed a bulkhead box with the mirage manifold?

Nope I won't need it :) I bought it to begin with without knowing what I was doing regarding the manifold system, figured I'd best buy one whilst he was making a batch. I'll just sell it on :ermm:

Correction: Dad's steering wheel was from a MK1 Escort not a Cortina

& my plenum turned up today!

Doesn't look as shiny as it does in the photos. I'm also going to try and get all my pipework black, for that nice underrated standard look.

Taking my total spending since deciding to turbo up to around £750! :) :w00t:
