I imagine the cup ones must place more stress on the bearings if they're even slightly out of balance. I buy the wheel type ones, I've finally managed to eat through my first one. Wear goggles though, I have found pieces of wire sticking out of my legs on a few occasions (I wear shorts when working on the car). It's taken me over a year to destroy that first wire wheel though, well worth the few quid they cost.

6 sheets total, more 1mm than 2mm as the majority will be the thinner stuff.

Whoops! Was everyone ok? Any damage to their car?

You've got plenty of steel to be getting on with there sir!

Any specific bits you need from MITP? I've got a mental list going :D.

Yeah just a bit shaken up! we must have been going at 5mph as we'd just pulled out of a field entrance and he was just accelerating from a corner. We shunted his back end which send him sliding into the hedge, nothing major! Although he said he'd just had that door replaced after someone had hit him in a car park, hah!

Mm set me back about £60, but I'd rather have plenty to make mistakes with! which I probably will be to begin with :)

I've got some big bits on the list, set of cobra classics, subframes and rear seats to match, Maniflow exhaust, set of second hand doors to refurb, set of tires.. all the big bits to save on postage! I'll see what I can fit in the car :o

And smaller bits like a turbo gasket set and other bits.. got a list in the garage :D

Had a really good day today! I didn't take a whole album full of photos like I normally do, 3rd time I've been to santa pod now! Just enjoyed walking round without a camera strapped to my wrist.

What I did take photos of though.. was this..

Posted Image

My brand spanking new lovely soft black cobra classics, with the subframes to match. They fit me a treat, can't wait to get these installed. They seem to be very comfy and quite supportive!

Posted Image

I also picked up a second hand rear seat, looks to me to be around the 70s era.. I picked these up for £15, so I'll get them professionally reupholstered to match the front.

Posted Image

Annnnnd lastly, my maniflow exhaust system :P and a headgasket and exhaust manifold too.

I got my mini back up on the spit..

Posted Image

And I tried some welding!

Posted Image

This is the patch I had a go at welding.. it's quite small and out the way so I wasn't afraid of making mistakes.

Posted Image

Cut the area out, made a template out of cardboard, cut the shape out of my sheet steel and then wire brushed down the surrounding area.

Posted Image

And then after welding it in and grinding it down..

Um :) the patch is in but the metal around has just been eaten away..

The welder is on its lowest setting.. but I think it might improve if I was using argon and not the CO2.. and also if I was doing bigger patches so I could get a run of weld rather than trying to spot here and there and making a mess.

It is a good strong weld though, the patch is held in there well.

Help please TMF

looks quite thin there luke, all you can do is build up the weld by doing little bursts of welding until
it builds up some thickness or if you have some copper , you could clamp that behind where you
are welding and this will help as a heat sink

It looks to me like you might have dressed that down too far Luke.

You'll find that the weld will sometimes sink a little so you can't dress it completely flat without some hammer and dolly action first.

Cheers you two, I'll give it another go tomorrow :) quite excited to get the hang of it all!

A minispares order turned up this weekend too :)

Posted Image

Mk3 rear lights :ermm: I did think about buying a second hand pair from a show, but I figured they are the most prominent feature on the rear end. So spent a bit extra and bought a new set, which in my opinion, was a worthy spend!

Exhaust gasket as well.. better than the one I bought at the show, as its got metal ringlets.. to prevent heat spread, or so I'm told.

Posted Image

Centre ignition barrel and keys, been playing with this :) can't wait for it to actually do something when it's wired up :P

& studs for my thermostat, so I can finish getting the cooling system on.

Looking good Luke. Good to see progress with the bodywork.

Aren't those mk2 rear lights?
