Got another evening in after work! I spend all day excited about knowing I'll be able to spend an evening in the garage, haha!

Posted Image

Wanted to get these welded up as they are now useless.. they held the rivets that held the ashtray in the rear.

Posted Image

2 pence piece behind the hole, blob of weld the other side and grind flat.. job done!

Posted Image

All 4 done.

Posted Image

Gave the bare metal a coat of Ku-rust.

Posted Image

And then a dusting of etch

Posted Image

Next drainage hole to fill.

Posted Image

After welding, went a lot better this time! left more of a gap between the hole and the patch.. meaning the weld sunk and it went in nicer.

Posted Image

Etched, looks a bit heavy but it was only a dusting!

Posted Image

Another bit of the heelboard in the middle that needed some attention, was identical the other side.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Both of the metal tabs removed, all the rust ground down and then a coat of Ku-rust.

I've left that to dry, hopefully tomorrow I'll have the red oxide through the post so I'll finish those two sections off then.

My cans of primer turned up, I know they dont deserve a photo, but everyone likes photos.

Posted Image

& so did my rear seats!

Posted Image

So now I have two sets :) this is because my idea of buying a cheap pair for a tenner and getting them reupholstered would prove wayyy to expensive. I won this black set for under £30 quid, they do match very well.. although they look very shiny because of the flash. They are a tad compared to my cobra classics.. can you dull this stuff somehow? but it won't be noticeable when they are in place.

& a cool thing is that the horizontal lines match the vertical lines on my front seats! so look like a set :D which some plain black doors cards it'll all work a treat.

Picked up some seam sealer today from Halfrauds.

Posted Image

Centre of the floor red oxided.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Then the lip seam sealed, it looks hella ugly.. but it will do the job nicely! and as it's out of view it doesn't matter.

Posted Image

Left for an hour whilst I did the bodywork and then covered in red oxide.

Posted Image

This is the corner I am dealing with first.. will repeat on the other side as well.

Posted Image

Closing plate cut out, got two on order.

Posted Image

After cleaning it all up it didn't look as bad.

Posted Image

Posted Image

So I got that cut out, patch made and started to weld it in.. but it's getting late and I need to be up for 4.40 tomorrow morning  so called it a night.

Looks like you are having fun with it, are you going to change your inner arches as well as they look a tad crusty??

It's definitely a challenge, but I am enjoying it.

I did look at how much arches cost to replace.. and for £120 approx for both sides, it is tempting.. but I think I can get away with repairing each of the ends as they are only rusted through there. A previous owner has repaired the middle section on both sides before.

& I will be stripping the arches back to bare metal to then dress then up again and make sure they are solid all the way round and through.

EDIT: Just saw you mentioned that already, doh!

I've got the most emptiest unmotivated feeling in my stomach at the moment.. :)

Posted Image

That is how tonight ended. It does feel good to have all the rusty metal cut out because now it's out of sight and I can start to rebuild it all.. but christ it looks difficult..

Posted Image

I need to repair this section first, then I can put the section of the floor back in.. after repairing a few tears from the spot welds.

& once the floor is built back up I can then overlay the heelboard end and get that welded in, then tidy up the end of the arch and then get the closing panel in between them in!

I'll take it little by little :dontgetit:

Both RH and LH might be an idea.. doesn't matter that they aren't genuine as I'd be cutting them up for what I need. Would at least give me a good solid lip to go on rather than try and make one myself.

Thoughts?
