i dont watch or read the news, and the only sites i visit online are ones that i go on a lot, like on here and ebay mainly. or to find things out that directly affect me

i just didnt understand how everyone can be asked to sign a petition, when there isnt much information to go with it. sorry if i offend but i try to keep out of the news, because my opinions are quite strong and i just get in arguments with people. and most of it really doesnt interest me to be honest

the reason i ask is that i dont want to say anything without knowing the full story and stick my size 11 in it

There is an extremist Muslim group called Muslim4UK, who are planning to do a march/fake repatriation ceremony through the town of Wootton Bassett. Which is the town where all the fallen of the UK armed forces drive trough on there way out of RAF Lyneham. The local towns people come out to honour the fallen. Islam4uk want to "Honour" what they call the "real war heroes", these being the thousands of Muslims killed.

im not going to get too much into it, but i cant even see a reason why we are fighting over there and taking a higher position. personally i think its sick and twisted that they are going through this town to do their little riot march. i have no realised where it is from what ive been told about it from an ex military engineer at our place. very political guy

i really hope this doesnt take place at wooton bassett, i wouldnt mind as much but the way they have appeared to describe them as the 'real heroes of the war'
its completely sick and hope it starts a huge riot and shows the government how blind they have always been

the reason why we are over there is by request of NATO in helping to remove the Taliban from power as they were doing some pretty nasty stuff. Also it's to stop the drugs trade and help the Afghanis make a living from farming other things.

The NATO forces have done lots to help the Afgan population by doing things like putting a generator into the Kajaki Dam to help bring electricity to thousands of people who have never had it before.

It may just be me, but it seems that some of the posts in this topic are just as extreme as those you are discussing.

As an American military member, I will happilly fight along side any of my brothers and sisters and our allies for the right of their countrymen and mine to express their opinions, whatever they are, in any non-violent and legal manner they so choose. This is one of the rights we sign up to protect, and a freedom we strive to convince the world is necessary and right. How can western society be the example of righteousness and freedom when we insist on infringing on someone's rights because we don't agree with them? Is that not hypocritical?

I may make some enemies with this post, but after reading through this thread, I just couldn't help myself. >_<

I don't see what peoples problems are with them walking through a town where people who have chosen to be in the army and know they could be killed get brought back to after the thing they knew could happen to them has

Sorry, but that statement is WELL out of order.

Petition signed.

Paul.

You can get most of it from watching the news. Almost every day 100's of Afghanis are injured and lots killed by suicide attacks from their own people. I know the British troops have rifles, I have to carry one every day I'm out there. But while in a conflict maybe 1 or 2 taliban get killed, in a suicide attack upwards of 50 can be killed. And these attacks happen almost daily.

As for you saying you havn't. Bet you would have done if you had a Christmas in new york planned but couldn't go to someone being on strike.

Im sorry but if you want to do a demostration, then do it in your own country

just because someone is a muslim doesnt make them a foreigner, thats like saying all black people are foreigners.

and yes some of them are from other countrys and do sponge off our system but im sure some of the people that will be going on the march protest thing are born and bred british but just have a different religion.

but i do agree that they shouldnt be protesting in wooton basset but out side of no.10 or some were on a political stance so that there can not be any chance of our servicemen and women having there names and reputations being dragged through the dirt.

people do have a right to say what they wont when they wont. people cant stop you talking unless you are inciting some illegal.

People who think its a good idea to do this sort of thing dont deserve to be in this country and be called British and so are foreighers.

As Darkscamp just said, would this be accepted in Afganistan if we went protesting?

I am all for free speech and if they want to hold a march then do it at a political place like parliment to get their message accros to the governmennt. Some people seem to be under the illusion that this is a peacful march, the venue for their march was choosen specificaly to hurt the familys and the memorys of the fallen there is nothing peacful about that.
This town is sacred to british service personel and holds the same value a mosque does to someone of the muslim faith or any other site of cultural significance for anyone of any faith for that matter.

Remember the law states that actions that may cause alarm or distress is unlawfull under the public order act. This blatent snipe at our boys would do exactly this to me and many others.

Hysterix.

Let me assure you that death of any sort, natural or war related is terrible. But some respect should be shown for the Armed Forces. If they were not there doing there bit and dieing. Then you would be dieing in the tube on your way to work. The only shame is that my friends are dieing to protect people who are as ignorant and disrespectful as yourself.

Its a good job most of the population share a sense of camaraderie and respect. Otherwise I would be at home with my family right now.
