I have had a mental couple of weeks ! And been mega busy researching the next part of the project,
But first, previously I stated that I had to bring the pickup back to the body shop, this was too have the roof re flatted back and polished as it looked like only one half of the roof had been finished, also, they had to do some more work on the drivers door as a crack appeared, so it was into the body shop and aye the music for a week.
So about 2 weeks ago we had the photoshoot so the magazine people came over, setup took photos, all was going beautifully! Engine was gleaming, bodywork was sexily silky smooth, and was picture perfect, until they were photographing the interior I heard 'bang' and thought to myself, bird must had dropped something not to worry, and then it happened again and at that the door dropped !
The studs on the lower hindge had snapped ! So this was another job to add for London to Brighton!
Preparation for London to Brighton,
Repair refit door,
Clean polish car,
Replace rear bumpers,
Tidy up engine bay
So repairing the doors, firstly I had been told that the cast hindges were very fragile ! So I was really looking forward to attacking them, I tired mole grips, spanners, soaking in wd40, all with no avail and slowly rounding off the remaining part of the bolt that had sheared, so I had a idea to cut 2 flats using a dremel and again get a pair of miles on it, which failed so I though I would try the most unlikely of tools an adjustable spanner and by Jove it worked !!! So it was all sorted and refitted, which again was a pain, in doing this I drained the oil catch tank and drained over 2 pints worth of oily water, not good, check the engine and it's fine no water contamination, so next going to work on a one way valve for it,
Cleaning the car ( now this bit I enjoy)
Below is what I do and what I use
Rinse
Wash using 2 bucket method with AG body shampoo
Rinse
Then started the decontamination process
I clay bared the entire car
Then applied tardis on the spots that required the removal, front slam panel was very bad,
Then used iron x to remove any iron deposits on the paint work,
From this point I they used a snow foam to rinse and soak all extra bits off, then rinse using water and pat dry not wiping the paint otherwise this will leave swirl marks,
Next stage was protection,
Using Autoglym Super Resin Polish I applied a coat allowed to go off then buff off ins straight lines to get a awesome effect, I repeat this 2 times, once this is done its time to get out the BIG guns
Autoglym HD Wax, 1 light coat, allow to cue for 10-15 mins the buff off !
Final stage was to use extra gloss protection which is a sealant for the paint and protects the wax that little bit more,
Wheels, was a wheels of, use bilberry acid and wheel sealant, jobs a good'n !
Glass use super resin polish
And bright work the AG metal polish.
Then that is the car pretty much clean,
Only had to replace the rear 2 quarter bumpers
An the engine bay polish up carbs and touch up any damaged paint I.e on radiator alternator etc

Ladies and gentlemen it has been quite a while since I last posted on this thread but to give you an update, what has been happening with us lately,
finally managed to get all 3 of the minis in the family together for the first time since we had the gathering in the garden and the pickup was ploncked in a field all those years ago,
on the way home from go karting this same night driving relatively sensible unfortunately the cabin filled up with steam after a load bang, the rad was singing so I killed the ignition and the kill switch and the engine continued to run for a few seconds and looked at the temp gauge and was up to 120/130 degrees safe to say that I left it off for a little while, and Dominic came to the rescue, the problem..... a snapped alternator belt , I left the car over night and went down in the morning and sorted it out, a 10 minute job which I was happy about, gave the car a blast on the way home just to check all was well.
so a couple of weeks on from this, I have brought some H4 twins ! and in the process of working out if to put them on the 1014cc for a better HP figure, however I do like the drivability that the HS2's have, so I am planning on keeping these for my big bore project, another carb that I am eager to get hold of is a hif44 and a manifold to suit as I am told my engine would perform better with the hif44 rather than the hs2's and also save on fuel and better start up characteristics,
we also went to 'Minis on the Rec' and came back with a prize, I won the show and shine for best commercial,
Me with my cleaning tool box !!!! polishing away !
getting ready for santa pod now and I am taking penny up the strip looking forward to it
