It was stripping time. Doors off, seats off, boot off, bonnet, panels, interior.... all just to put it back in to it a few weeks later.

I was looking what to do next a thought it would be therapeutic to clean off the black paint from the block. I used a screw driver and air line and a lot of the paint just lifted off in huge pieces.
Looks like this (really need a tin of red paint and a small brush now to touch it up!)

I was also getting fed up of the blended arches so decided to hack them off and see what was underneath! Wish I'd left well alone now

Never mind onwards and upwards eh?
I gave them a good thump to crack the filler them ripped em off with my hands. My god the PO's dad has ruined the wings, but in his defense the edges are covered in rust do I reckon it was maybe done to save fitting new wings and A panels.

I DA'd off the glassfibre strands and filler then stuck some etch, then primer then colour on to stop it rotting while I decide what my options are.

And the other side!

Anyone have an idea if I will get away with arches (group 2's preferably or even sportpacks at a push or has there been too much metal removed? I may have to replace the wings yet!!!)

I replaced the water temperature sensor and cleaned the voltage stabiliser as the temp gauge has been going into the red for most of the time, now sits halfway, at the moment...

Decided to take advantage of the weather and rip out my ugly jewel clear lights to fit my Mk2's. I cut the loom plug from the Mk5 tail light housings and fitted them to the Mk2's as they are now plug and play and when I do come to fit Mk1 rear lights later I can sell these ready to go into a late model.
Plug and play loom.
All done. Stainless Wipac fog and reverse lamps next.
I really should start a build thread soon.

Just so your aware, I don't know if your cars on the road but it's illegal to drive a car post 80 without a reverse light.

Thanks again. Not having a pop lol.
I can't use it as yet anyway as I decided to remove the fibreglass arches only to find the PO had cut the wings back way too far to be useable, so I've had to buy new wings and A panels and arches!!! IAs you can imagine I was seriously annoyed to find the results below.

Reverse lights aren't legally required and don't need to be tested for MOT.
