I was very careful, delicate and nice to him as I put the head back on with a new head gasket, replaced oil filter, new sump plug and got it all screwed down and everything on. All I had to do was fill the water system, put oil in him and give him a heat cycle.

Thing is, as I was putting the water in... It came out the side of the block, exactly where the freshly torqued head gasket was placed! After months of waiting and work, it has to come apart again. Sigh.

I didn't swear though! I laughed at him. Oh how very stubborn he is :D

Another cycle over to see my little squatter on Saturday. Got a few bits and pieces done, re-fiited all new radiator hoses, fitted new thermostat housing, all with shiny new jubilees. Finally managed to get the new radiator in place, having lost a few chunks of skin in the process!!! So all ready to go (not turned over since the squatting started this time last year!), as just got the new alternator to fit. Can't wait!

Spent an hour trying to get the oil filter off then realised I was trying to spin it the wrong way. Also bit the bullet and put the head back on, hopefully will make it to Combe,

rear subframe maladies continued.............

started to take the rusty mount back to bare metal, found that some miscreant has previously bogged the bottom of the wheel-arch up. Oh! and I now know why the rear tracking was out- the NS radius arm bearing has collapsed, allowing a generous toe out. Hmmm- probably explains why dimensions didn't match the OS arm.

Rolled the other one out of the garage, drilled and fitted my temporary front arches, washed off as much of the dust and dirt from sitting in the garage for months as best I could with the front screen currently removed and pushed it back into the garage again.

What tool did you use? I have the canister type but I have a piece of metal blocking me that goes from the top of the grille to the bottom (can't think what it's called). I was using oil filter plier grips.

Got the head back on, run it up, got the water in re torqued and checked tappets and it ran amazingly! Sitting at 60psi oil pressure, only problem is an incorrectly sized jubilee clip meaning water comes out the thermostat housing outlet. Will hopefully fix that tomorrow though :D

So happy it's running again!
