Finally got around to fitting my new cones, hi-lo's, knuckle joints and shocks in the rear. Everything came apart easily until I got to removing the old nylon cups from the radius arm, bloody thing will not budge! I've torn it nearly to shreds and it still won't move. I had to give up in the end, looks like I'm going to have to buy a dremel to get it out. So annoying that one little thing has turned a nice easy job into a hassle

One of my front ones wouldn't budge so I got my mini gas blowtorch out and melted it out. Worked well!

I heard heat worked well and I was going to try using a little kitchen blowtorch but I was worried that it would melt onto the steel and it'd be even harder to remove. Bought a dremel today anyway but I might try heat first

Refitted manifolds and carb.
New points, condensor, rottor arm, dizzy cap, plugs and leads.
Set the dwell.
Set the valve clearances.

Almost ready to try to figure what I've done wrong when I try to fire it all up.

When I did mine I used a small pair of pliers and as I heated it I bent it away from the steel (so bending inwards) then I managed to work it free.

I defied the cold today and went out and finished wiring in my fuel pump and inertia cut-out. Then I put the ally rad in with all new hoses and clips and turned my attention to the oil. I oiled up a funnel-full at a time but when the bottle was almost empty I was puzzled as to why it hadn`t shown on the dipstick yet. That was the point at which I noticed I was standing in a puddle of the stuff! Panic set in as I set about looking for whence it had come. It finally transpired that as I was pouring it into the top of the rocker box it was going straight out of the back via the badly seated gasket! Why does nothing ever go right for me? BOO HOO!  :(

Got it all put back together again.
And it started.
Huzzah!!!!!

It also leaked petrol from the float chamber to jet hose.
So the carb came back out.
Arse!!!!!

Finished trial fitting the Sportspack arches, didnt realise I could cut the front wings with scissors...!!!

Also fitted all 4 KYB adjustamatic or whatever they called shocks... noticed the front subframe was moving as jacked up the front of my car... investigations ensued, and both rear subframe mounts where in need of replacement. 1 was just not attached and the other was about to become detached..... good job I had a pair in my shed of many things, Iv only had them for the past 10 years, I bought them new for my last Mini (Studio 2 on H reg) before I sold it... Took me Mini for a drive around as its the first time its had the arches on and the 13" Superlights fitted, just to make sure the wheels aren't catching on the arches... Iv never fealt a car to have sooo much grip :):):) well happy, I forgot how good a Mini feels in the corners.... and also no more loose engine :)

Need to remove the arches now to paint them LOL 3 are easy to remove, only 1 thats a bit awkward is the NS rear as the petrol tank has to be removed....

Bought the dremel last weekend and went to go at it again today, said I'd give it a quick go again with the needle nose pliers before I got the dremel out and sure enough it came out in about 30 seconds! Typical eh!
