Set up my AS-D alarm, yet to do any form of immobilising with it as I want to make sure it works properly and doesn't cause any unwanted problems before it starts messing with me being able to start my car!

Fixed the overwhelming smell of petrol! I've had my Mini for six days now and when I first filled her up last Saturday I thought she smelt a bit of petrol. The smell went and I thought no more about it. Having done a couple of hundred miles this week it was time to fill up again and wow, what a smell! Turned out to be our old chum the fuel tank overflow/vent pipe which was, shall we say, past Its best. Sticky and snapped in two to be accurate. Just replaced with a nice braided 3.4mm rubber fuel hose from Halfords, £4.60 including clips. Much better quality that the original and now securely clipped on, so hopefully our day out in Winchester tomorrow will be a little less fragrant....

My dads mini likes to smell of petrol, I'll have to check out his breather pipe.

Had a very pleasant 40 mile round trip to Winchester on the A272 this morning, waved at a dark blue '84 Mayfair going the other way and also saw three other classics, a Panhard, Triumph TR6 and an MGB. The petrol smell has definately been cured by fitting a new breather pipe!
This afternoon I replaced the original faded side repeater lenses, dismantled, cleaned and checked all of the other lamp units, fitted the missing clip that holds the bonnet stay in place at the front of the bonnet, fixed the drivers seat lock and freed off/ lubricated the stiff runners on both front seats. No wonder the drivers seat lock wasn't working well, the catch had been bent so that it was laying almost horizontal rather than vertical! A small technical adjustment with a rubber mallet has sorted it out and now it works perfectly.

sprayed the standard black grille silver in an attempt to brighten the car up a bit.
got too many mechanical bits to sort before i can spend money on new chrome so this is just a temporary fix. the grille was in a mess anyway.
