Brought her out of hibernation.

Battery charged up.

Started up first time.

Reversed her out of the garage.

Stood back and admired her.

Checked everything ready for the MOT on Saturday and ready for show season.

A bit more engine work on my Mpi block and spending far too much time trying to arrange replacement fasteners.

What were Rover thinking when they added a selection of metric fasteners without actually ‘going metric’!

Passed the MOT yesterday!
Took her out on the first outing of the year to a local show. Got some really nice comments on how she looked.

As one of a series of upgrades and improvements, we tried to fit a pair of Minispares adjustable camber brackets to the rear suspension but none of the holes lined up.

After a lot of cursing, the job was abandoned, we headed home deflated and will try again today.

Yep, been there done that and gave up as well, more crap parts. Mine now has the standard brackets still fitted.

Well, it's done.

Al at Vaudrey Classic Car Solutions has, "with a little jiggery pokery" (his words) has got them fitted.

Initially, the brackets were fitted but the bolt on the underside is (as others have described) half a bolt out.

Alex/Al is a wizard and the most patient mechanic in the world sorted it.

We don't know if the brackets are poorly made or the subframe is an aftermarket item, but the fitting is difficult and needs a full set of facilities (doing it on the ramp made life easier) and a whole lot of patience.

The toe-in and camber are now adjustable - but what a faff.

I hope the pictures help (taken from videos, so please excuse the quality).

Out of the garage for the first time in weeks due to work, etc. Ran great. Makes you miss driving these classics when you drive an EV daily.

Replaced starter motor and double checked timing-10degree @1500rpm vac disconnected and all good after feedback about advance and kick back. Fuel perfect LA readings 0.98 idle and 0.96 through the rev range ( at little lean at 1.3 at 3.5k)

It's funny how your mindset changes when driving EV (Zöe) vs classic, keeping an eye on the range, getting annoyed with squeaks and rattles, then you jump in the mini and it's noisy and hot and the fuel gauge doesn't work but you just enjoy the drive.

I'll collected Marvin from Vaudrey Classic Car Solutions and he's running fabulously.

Highlights are:

  • New @ACDodd carb and fuel filter and pressure regulator has made a huge difference
  • The KAD Quick Shifter is wonderful (I'll do a separate post on this)
  • The ride and handling have been improved with the adjustable camber/toe brackets
  • The brakes have been adjusted and tweaked
  • The new clutch master cylinder does what the old one didn't - it works
  • A new indicator stalk means the horn, lights and indicators work
  • Heater cable now works (it was under the seat in its packaging) as fitting it made a huge difference.

The result is a faster, quieter and more reliable car.

I'm delighted.

:-) Peter
