The last 2 months my Mini has been off the road.

Week 0  Decided I was fed up with right rear tyre rubbing on wheel arch when going over a dip in the road. Decided to put cones back in and remove coil over shocks. ordered red dot cones, 4 news hilos, the rear suspension bars and new spax krypton shocks all round from Mini Spares.

Week 1 Nowt waiting for parts to arrive.

Week 2 went to fit rear cones and shocks found out I forgot to order new knuckles as the originals had been removed. fitted rear shocks.

Week 3 decided to lift the front and get warped disc turned. Noticed big puddle of brake fluid, left caliper leaking like a sieve. Ordered Calipers, pads and Discs from Mini Sport.

Week 4 the week from Hell. Fitted rear cones bars and knuckles all done in less than an hour. Started on the left front, removed old knuckle ,hilo and cone. Installed new cone then spent 2 hours trying to get the knuckle back in. read and re read my Haynes manual watched 3 youtube videos, it all seemed so easy. The I saw the little rubber cushion under the conrol arm not mentioned in Haynes or the videos, well once this was removed knuckle just popped in like flynn. Total time over 4 hours and temp was 37C. Installed right side next day in 2 hours. installed front shocks.

Week 5 Went to install front brakes, caliper didn't fit disc is too far out from swivel hub. Called Mini Sport and talked to Mick, turns out I had Metro drive flanges not Mini ones. ordered new Drive flanges.

Week 6 nowt waiting for parts.

Week 7 Fitted new drive flanges, calipers now fit Thanks Mick for all your help. Installed the rest of the braking system, bled it with the help of Er indoors. Adjusted the hilos and took it for a test drive, runs and handles great and stops on a sixpence.

Just need to readjust the left front hilo and all will be well. Now I can enjoy driving it again with no rubbing.

I'm about to replace the 2 front cones on my mini as the first job on it. Makes me a bit happier to hear someone else has just done it recently! Will keep in mind the little rubber bumper!

After awakening from a ten year slumber it has an oil leak! The breather canister on the tappet chest has rubbed through on the front engine plate. It looks like a bit of dismantling is needed to fix this.Steve..

Made myself one of these interior mirror on a stick things, I was worried that it would vibrate, but it seems to work OK.

I oiled up the valve train, took out the plugs and spun the engine over. No spark, so out with the multimeter later on.

Brake slave cylinder and servo removed. Going to covert to a yellow tag system.

Finally removed broken clutch slave cylinder. After resorting to heat and brute force to get the clevis pin out.

Need to now make a shopping list.

Also finding half finished bits and bobs from when I last worked on here about 18 months ago.

Genuine clutch slave cylinder, all bolts and washers and one piece braided hose ordered from minispares.

Decided to investigate the wiring situation and ended up ordering new econoseal connectors to replace the dodgey ones in the engine bay. So also ordered the proper crimping tool from polevolt.

Also found a great guide on how to crimp Econoseal pins: https://www.caterham...eal-connectors/

Fitting hi-los, the knuckle cup I had replaced back last December (GSV1118) put up a serious fight, it had gone very brittle and broke into many hard to remove pieces, unlike the drivers side which is 3 years old but pulled out in one piece.

I think the drivers side was a graphene cup and passenger was nylon type material...

How about 'Bastrent'? Sounds bad but it isn't. Eldest son used to use it in his early teens. Couldn't really pull him for it.

Some welding needed, half a days work for a competent mini owner. I usually make up a strengthener plate of 1 or 1.2mm steel that goes from above the subframe mounts, down and into the crease of the foot well area, a cut out around the tunnel too. Fully seam welded it goes solid

Great run out today in the classics on a hot bank holiday. Been awhile since i've had my mini out the garage due to work, but she ran great!
