Bad news! found some new about my gearbox, can be seen in my engine rattle thread. Looks like we can rule out it being the gearbox.

None as of yet. She's off to see Dave Yardy tomorrow, who will hopefully shed some light on the issue! I seem to have two issues still, the rattle, and a slight misfire. The idler issue keeps being mentioned to me but it can't be that as that was replaced and reshimmed.

How's things with yours?

I'm still having trouble bleeding the clutch. There still seems to be some air in there.

I've been using a hand held vacuum bleeder to do the clutch with and it does work a treat. Much less mess and waste than an ezi bleed.

It wouldn't bleed my brakes, but I did have a collapsed hose so it may well be ok.

Good to see you again on Sunday.

You too shifty. Even if only briefly, it was rather manic in that hall!

A vacuum bleeder would be perfect for this and is my chosen method, but my friend has my mityvac kit. The eezibleed threw fluid all over my bulkhead as it wouldn't seal, and I don't seem to be getting anywhere with the two-man technique.

I'm hoping Dave can help me tomorrow, although it wasn't in the plan when the car was booked in.

Bingley is always a bit busy, its not really a relax, chil and doss about kind of show. Too many people and too little space.

Are you going to Malvern?

No luck! not driven it today, sorting my twin carbs to fit haha!

This video, seems to be the same problem, but I can't tell if mine is as loud as that but mine defo is when it is warmed up.

I am glad, in a way someone has the same problem and my box isn't that old either. So idler surely is a rule out.

I might try changing the clutch bearing to see if it works, one came through the post today.

Bingley was good, even though sitting in traffic with the rattle wasn't nice :(

It's definitely a buy/sell kind of show. It was a bit lost on me as I didn't actually need anything for the car  I don't see much MPi stuff about, not thats better than what I already have anyway!

I don't work Sundays (at the moment) so I should be at Malvern!

Mr Bullet, I forgot to ask John about the release bearing, but I'd love it to be that! I know it's quite a big job to change it still, but it's easier than an engine rebuild

Well, I heard it is very easy! such as, sliding the old one off and sliding the new one on :)

As I say, Mini Danny on here had the same noise, clutch down, noise gone and the release bearing change sorted it! :)

It involves removing the clutch cover doesn't it? That's an awkward job, plus I have an MPi so theres all kinds in the way :P

Clutch bearing isn't hugely difficult, although as you say on an MpI you have loads of crap in your way.

Undo engine mounting+stabilser bar

Jack up engine

Remove wok(now is a good time to buy a flexi head 13mm/ 1/2"af ratchet spanner.

Remove bearing.

Refit as removed.
