That's the problem Muk.

They are very tight front end, tight in the middle and nearly open at the back !! Can't adjust the frame anymore, but could move the front screw holes out to allow the rear of the frame to come in a touch. Off next week so will have a play !!

Carlos,

a ten minute job and as you say, once filled in they wont leak or rust around the plugs !!

Graham

well if that is the solution, I would move the screw holes, bit of pluggin, grindinand drillin, 10 minut job indeed, probably only needs 1mm, be carefull yr not to generous, trial fit the window with the seal in and mark it,....you will see 1mm is enough ;D

Hi all,

disaster has struck !! Matthew passed his test yesterday, first time and within 2o mins of passing he was asking about insurance on my car, a 1.8 focus. So as you do when you haven't finished the mini, I let him drive it. £1899 fully comp with 'insure the box', but I have to have a box fitted and drive like a nun until he can drive the mini !! Also limited to 6k miles per year but it gets him on the road !!

Anyway back to the mini.......

Had an inspection of the bottom lip of the boot door. It was looking a little pitted so I opened up the lip of the skin, cleaned, kurusted, seam sealed and re skinned it. The pitting was there, but sound so I am happy with the cleaning and sealing. I gave the boot lid to Matt to rub down and 3 hours later went to inspect progress. What a nightmare !! I think it has had a dodgy respray in the past as it had started to flake during rubbing down and it would have taken hours longer to get anywhere near good enough so out the grinder came.

10 mins later back to metal, just needs a quick block wet and drying before etch primer. Looks like I have the whole car to do now though as all the same !!

Also did the inside of the magnum skin, taking off the e coat till it was solid, again needs etch and prime before going on the frame which I took back to bare metal as it was easier. Didn't do where the card sits as I don't see it a needed.

Then I deskinned and had a look at the passenger door I got off fleabay

Looked a little crusty at first, but after a stripping and a good wire wheeling on the grinder it was better than the driver door. I will haveto replace some of the bottom lip and a patch near the hinge mount but not too bad.

All stripped as with the driver door but not repaired yet.

Well that's all folks, bathroom, Matt's forthcomming 18th and rain stopped any other progress but at least some done.

17, no NCD, just passed test, no !!! Had quotes to get him as a named driver on my car of 10 and 12,000 so am pleased with it really. It is costing him 140 a month after I take off what I was paying myself, so he was happy. All young kids are being trashed at the moment, even 998 minis will be best part of 2000 on his own!

If it helps, my insurance was £1650 on a 998, 'normal' cars were nearing 4.5k, even group 1 cars. You cant seem to get round it, either you pay, or you dont drive, and insurance companies know this.

God I hate insurance, that's terrible, don't think I'd last long with one of those trackers :D My Astra estate is group 4, it's a 8v automatic and with 7 years no claims aged 25 it's still £700

Liking the idea of peeling back the skin, the skin on the bottom of my doors is fine, it's the door itself, really don't want to pay for what I don't need, even though I might need to shell out £180 for a rear repair panel :(

Good on Matt!! And more so good on you Graham forking that out for your boy's insurance. Two of my children are on my old Saxo - I think its just £450 a year but that's third party and also up here in the Highlands and out in the country. It kind of shames me seeing what you do for your boy. This Mini is for him. It's looking good Graham. That surface rust on the lip cleaned off nicely.

Hugh
