Hugh, lol, I haven't the funds to pay for his insurance outright, (I wish), but seeing though we are sharing the car I have taken off a chunk of the monthly cost for him. He is paying 140 per month which he and I are pleased with. It gets him mobile and learning in a car with more protection than the mini will give him so am not complaining.

As an added bonus he is cleaning it regularly and even doing inside, woo hoo, only so he can drive round with his friends in !!

As I see it, you have kids to spoil them a bit and he is working hard, and maturing nicely as a person so I really don't mind. Need to spens some more money now as the doors have to be sound deadened and have new rubber channels fitted as they both broke getting them out !! If the weather holds next week I will be in full on paint stripping mode !!

Yea, Down & out, buggered as they have you young drivers by the short and curlies like the government have us old gits in pretty much the same hold !!!

Was that quote with you at 17 and who with??

Graham

Yeah it was at 17, just after passing, and it was with a small company called 'insure2drive' which i found through a comparison site. Might be worth a call?

Hi all,

It's all doable Minicf, I was a complete novice too when I started and with some patience and lots of questions you get through it. Welding is all practice though, so get yourself some scrap and have a go !!

Just a small update to let you know where I am up to, not much further !!

Started to paing the front subby, no pics as too mundane, but I want it done for when the underside is finished so it can go back on wheels asap. The bonnet drain channels are now finished and just need some sealing, they were a pig to do and really need a die grinder to get them looking nice !

Otherwise I have been filling in the holes in the floor, the ones for the drain plugs. Some keep them but I want them gone as the new sound deadening will cover them up and if it does leak I can always drill holes lol. My way of thinking is if I fit new seals and get the doors fitting well then there shouldn't be any leaks. Famous last words.

The boot had a couple of them and one was surrounded by thinner metal than I remember so kept blowing through. A larger patch required but I am glad I found the crud steel now than in a years time !!

There are 15 holes, excluding the battery box ones which I will replace as one piece, in the floor, no wonder they leaked. Just these left to do under the seat

Bathroom done so nothing stopping me now !

well done Graham, looks like you are on a roll now, understood and agreed the holes situation, they are also used as key measurement points.but I am sure once this one is finished, you don't need those for a while.... ;D

Bathroom the same as you started 5 month ago??

Nice to see you moving along again now Graham, now the weather is improving. As Minimuk said, the holes are actually jig points used for assembly at the factory. I have a diagram somewhere showing the types of conical locating pegs used to jig it up and various measurements between the points. Keep at it!

Well that definately does it, they are gone permenantly !! Some cleaning up underneath, re sealing and priming and stonechip time.

Muk, only taken a month or so, but it HAD to be finished as Matthew crashes through our bedroom at 6.30 to use the ensuite shower, spends 30 mins in there, god knows what he does for 30 mins, and crashes out again. That's me awake at 6.30 for over a month, NOT tomorrow though weh hey !!

I agree with you about the holes there Graham, I mean if there is that much water it needs draining out then you've got bigger problems! I'll be welding up all the drain holes & extra holes in the firewall etc for a smoother look. Are you welding up your bulk head holes too?

I identified a few holes when I was stripping the car down but haven't got any pics at the moment. The main ones being the passenger side holes for the LHD set up where the brake cylinders would be. I'll try to remember to get a pic next time I'm working on the car.

Yeah but as my car (& 99% of UK mini's) is never going to be LHD, they are redundant so I'm going to weld them up. There's a few other holes in the bulkhead that are not needed either, no point in having any extra areas water can sit & rust things out.
