i was going to buy my friends honda integra type r off him to use as a nippy daily, but cant justify paying what the insurance wanted!

have you thought of getting a metro? same engine as a mini. 205's are cool, renault 5's are good.

Not the later metros. Im assuming something later than the early metros with an A series is whats wanted. Especially as a modern reliable car was the critera.

Ive got a VW polo. Just the little 1.4 engine so nothing exciting but it nice and relible (touch wood). Would not want anything to exciting or I would never finish the mini!!!!

my mains cars a lupo, had it 5 years in November.. its the SDi so slow as *******. But its reliable, never had a break down in it, cost me £40 for some suspension bushes last year for the MOT. Its done 140,000 ... 50,000 of which have been with me... I plan to keep it until its death.

LUPO!! :)

Posted Image

They look awesome with a few little things done to them too, mines getting better wheels and going lower when I get some money!

Mines been a great little car, although ive heard they can have problems. I will warn you though, theres quite a few nasty ones about, took me a while to find mine. Mines a 1L, great on fuel, same price as the Mini to tax! :)

Cobblers to the Saxos, Corsas and all the other modern tin thats as boring as sin and only worth shoving over the side of a cliff.

Get another Mini!

I use mine as an 'everyday' car (pointless phrase, as its what a Mini was designed for!).

In the 3 years I have owned it, it only let me down twice.

Once was due to the points closing up (fixed at the side of the road, once I found the screwdriver  )

The other was a dodgy coil lead, that played up in the wet. Soon sorted that with some insulation tape!

Now try that kinda thing with a modern computerised tin can and you'll soon get fed up the phrase "its the ECU mate, can't do anything about it"

I did have a more modern car, it blew 2 engines, 3 ECU's, countless brakes problems, dash computer problems etc etc. NONE fixable at the side of the road, when its peeing down with rain, your cold, hungry, had a long day at work and you just want to get home.

Stick with a Mini.

For the price of some crappy modern tin, you could have a decent second Mini which is full of more charm, character, style and is easier to maintain than some modern boredom box.

Another mini? £1000 will go quite far if you shop about, Golfs are good fun from Mk1's to as new as you can afford. Also I have always have a spft spot for 205gti's (especially white ones)

Another vote for MK1 MX5 here.

Once you drive a "normal" car for a while and get back in the Mini it makes you appreciate it a whole lot more
