Your all going on about Mx5's shame on you!

Everyone knows the Mx5 is the worse version of the Rx7 >_<

I plan on keeping my mini as my "everyday car" or 4-5 years then purchasing one of these when insurance will allow!

Might be just me, but wasn't there a loop hole to do with rx-7's in terms of insurence?

Think you could register them as mazda 1.3's :D. There was a few lads under 21 who did it and got reasonable insurence. Until the insurers realised .

Swear it was posted up on ek9.org.

I have a 2000 Honda Civic 1.4 (EJ9), fantastic car!! It will never ever go wrong because its a HONDA. For a 1.4 it shifts, and the build quality is great.

Only trouble is, 1. The amount of aftermarket parts porn you can buy for them >_<. 2. Insurence, Hondas (for some reason) are high risk vehicles to insure, so my 1.4 honda is more to insure than a 1.6 saxo. But at the end of the day I know what I rather have.

Really? Why do I not know about this?! :w00t: . Is that loophole closed now then I take it ?

For the car you get I think they are cheap to buy, you can pick up a good condition one from £4,000! Although I may be biased as I haved loved these cars for as long as I can remember :D .

The main problem would be paying for the petrol !

Anyways back on topic, I would probably say go for a old school golf - they can look really nice when modified using the "Euro" look or a Pug 106.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the advice... after ALMOST buying a lupo last night I kind of have my heart set on one! Another mini.... well it's worth pointing out I'm on a remote Scottish island and the weather can be horrendous in the winter and the thought of a stronger, non leaky car that I'm not emotionally attatched to is attractive!! It is a nice thought to imagine Tiny all cosy in her garage in the bad weather. I know modern cars have their problems but I'm not going to go for anything over complicated and I'm never more than 30 mins from a friendly mechanic!

Someone made a good point earlier, a Seat Arosa is basically a re badged VW lupo, they just look slightly different, different lights etc. But just because it's not badged as VW it's less desirable, therefore cheaper :D but it's not as cute.. do a Google image search.

One of the girls I work with got an 04 plate arosa for the same price I paid for my 01 lupo, with about the same mileage on the clock.
Arosas are nice too, but as your bro said, just not as cute!

What colour was the one you nearly bought? I always wanted a fantasia green one :D, but there's not many about, so I settled for my blue one!

Also, best thing abou lupos are the dials at night!

I hate to be the boring one here BUT....

...when I had the Mini off the road for a few years for work and I bought a sucession of cheap cars, always less than £300, never more than 10 miles from me, always at least 10 months of MOT. In two years I never lost less than a couple of hundred quid total, did no work to them, bargain basement motoring and more money to spend on my Mini! Had a couple of Rovers, Mondeo, ZX Turbo Diesel (my favourite and the quickest!)

It is worth it sometimes and there's loads out there.

My next door neighbour has a lupo, they're pretty cool, id love a gti one for a weekend blast car

*edit, I've had quite a few different motors since the mini became a weekend toy/ garage queen lol, had things from an pug 306 cabriolet to a maserati 3200gt, but my favourite was a 1998 r reg escort gti I bought last winter for £500 with 6 months t&t. It was great on fuel had quite a few toys and pretty quick for a 1.8, used it all winter then sold it for £700! Cheap cars rock!

Yeah, it was cute, and I was gonna call it Pickle.... looked at Arosas and couldn't find any that were cheaper than a Lupo..... they are still quite nice though!

I had a lupo for a few years. It was a pretty decent car. HOWEVER, higher mileage lupos tend to end up either really loud (if its been driven hard) or really slow and weedy (if its been pootled around by a grandma). Until I had mine properly seen to it suffered from intermittent engine light dramas and misfires because it has mostly been used for short journeys and never really driven fast. Also look out for a common (expensive) clutch fault when the pedal partially detaches from the mechanism. Apart from that, they are solid little cars!

i got myself a 106 gti, tis good handleing and fast, the lupos really dont have much boot to talk of tho

No kids.... don't need boot space as long as I can fit a fiddle and a guitar in the back!

Not sure about the guitar, but i've had a fiddle in the back of most small cars... :D
