yes, I've done that... had a micra, an ancient peugeot and my mum's old renault 19, all free, and they were loads of trouble and all died on me in really awkward places! (middle of roadworks, on the way to a lawyer's meeting; miles from nowhere, full of beach stones....)I hate to be the boring one here BUT....
...when I had the Mini off the road for a few years for work and I bought a sucession of cheap cars, always less than £300, never more than 10 miles from me, always at least 10 months of MOT. In two years I never lost less than a couple of hundred quid total, did no work to them, bargain basement motoring and more money to spend on my Mini! Had a couple of Rovers, Mondeo, ZX Turbo Diesel (my favourite and the quickest!)
It is worth it sometimes and there's loads out there.
Going for something reliable this time

I'm actually getting a wooden garage made for Tiny, so I can keep her dry and happy! What a relief that will be.
Winter is approaching, and I need a modern, reliable small car that isn't boring for every day! I've been looking at Kas, Lupos, Corsas, but wonder what you guys have, if anything? I have £1000 to spend!
I have a new MINI as my daily driver..........but if on only a £1000 budget then the original Ford KA is cheap, reasonably reliable and almost as much fun to drive as a classic Mini, it also has an old but basic/simple/cheap to maintain cast iron 1300cc push rod engine, (dates back to the Anglia) is quite basic and unrefined, has some rust problems, but you can also get power steering and air con. 'Teapot' shape and image is a problem for some male owners though............

Once my project mini is done it will be a 2 seater; I will do away with my current mini as I only really need one running one to be fair but the catch is, I lift share at work. People getting in and out of the back of my mini is not fun and neither is the lack of power when they're in... haha and with a 2 seater mini... well, you get the picture.
So far, I'm thinking of a Mk4 golf, Mk6 Fiesta, Mk 5 Civic, Mk4 Astra...
I'm 19 (will be 20 when the project is done) so need to think of insurance.
Love the look of Lupos and quite like the odd Polo. Also don't want anything too old.
Sorry to threadjack a little, not my intention at all.
I'll be keeping my eye on the thread though!
